There could be. A maia named Melian in the First Age was pretty much a wizard, she bewtiched the boundaries of her realm so no orcs could get in.

Because she was a maia. And Galadriel almost managed the same thing in the Third Age, no orc dared go near Lothlorien until Sauron was at the height of his power.

well yeah...but why couldn't Gandalf seal off the areas outside of Dagorlad ro make the West safe from Sauron...kind of common sense.

Because Sauron could have easily just come there and broken the seal. Nor is it foolproof, there was war on the borders of Lothlorien when Sauron's power was growing. So close to the black land I don't believe Gandalf would have been able to seal off the area. Besides they would always have found another way, Cirith Ungol, sailing with the corsairs, coming with the Haradrim...

Maybe Tolkien was thinking that Sauron's power over the land would prevent such a thing.
