I would imagine she used her full elven power like Glorfindel in the FOTR book and broke them in that way. It's difficult to say.

Galadriel is the ultimate.
I think that by 'throwing them down', Tolkien is trying to explain that she simply made the walls collapse, by sheer force of will and innate strength - not physical, overt methods.

Hm. Maybe we can reenliven this thread by imagining what we'd do with the OTHER rings of power, no? the three which could preserve, the seven which could gain wealth, the nine which brought kingship.
