Morgoth: He's Sauron's master, turned the balrogs to evil, bred the race of orcs, and his will is the essence of evil.

You're sure on a balrog kick. I think Tolkien said at one point that there were never any more than seven.

I would say Morgoth too. If it hadn't been for him, all those things Jacques said above wouldn't have happened. And Sauron probably wouldn't have become evil. But then, without him, there is no LOTR, the Istari wouldn't have come, and so many things wouldn't have happened.

Of course not; he had to trick people into doing it for him! He was the only vala who knew fear.

yep. What I meant is that he couldn't of destroyed so and so all by himself...he needed orcs and balrogs and dragons and all that jazz.
Balrogs FTW!

Well... I'm wondering how thousands of elves would fare against the most powerful being in the universe. King Fingolfin once fought Morgoth in single combat. He gave him seven wounds and cut off his foot before Morgoth killed him.

Um, not really. But you'll read about that in The Silmarillion.

Fingolfin could've killed a few of those off. Elves have won against balrogs on occassion you know.
