I was just wondering: how did everyone picture the hobbits before the movies? i didn't see the movie yet, and i was reading The Hobbit and i always saw the hobbits as little guys, with really big round bellies, wearing a yellow shirt and green overalls, and thin curly brown hair on top of their heads. i couldn't picture the hobbit girls, though.

I think I pictured them with little fat bellies and really thick, curly toes(and hair) and chubby cheaks. They all smiled and were alzy, yet afew agile hobbits like Frodo. I didn't think of them as being too smart, but they all had a big, loving, heart. (hey, it rymes!)

I think it's my revive a dead thread phase. We should make an official revive dead threads week. Anyway, I had little chance to picture them for myself, my books had movie covers. The first glance I ever saw of lotr was the cover of my fotr: Elijah standing in bag end. But I pictured merry as being older.

MY FIRST-EVAR THREAD LIVES!
...
Heh. I had a really crappy painting of Bilbo when I first read The Hobbit, but that was before we switched the compys...
It was really bad. I mean, it showed what I pictured them as in my above post, but...It was a really bad painting thing.

I always kinda pictured the LOTR hobbits as they are in the movies (I had to read the books before I was allowed to see the movie, but I had seen the trailers, so I pictured them as they are in there)
In the Hobbit, I picture, them as shortish, pleasantly plump people with shortish curlyish hair.

Strangely, I had the most trouble picturing them; but now that I've seen the movie, I couldn't possibly imagine them any other way.

The same for me I suppose. Kelsea, were you like forbidden to see the movie until you read the books? Why?

I was forbidden to see the movie until I had read the books because my dad's been like a Tolkien fanatic since he was a kid and wanted me to get a sense of the real thing first. Now I'm really happy because of it, even if just to say that I did.

The books are always better than the movies for me. I could complain endlessly about the movies but I won't. I might not have even read the books but my grandpa didn't have time to take me to see fotr so he bought me the book instead. Good thing he did.

On the copy I read, the cover picture of Frodo was rather homely... so I aways pictured him that way, until the movies. Elijah Wood is anything but homely, hehe.

My books are covered in pictures. The cover is giant one and then there are quite a few on the back. But I pictured Gimli and Legolas completely differently from the way they turned out. And I didn't picture Boromir the way he looked either.

Obviously Bilbo was to be rich. He was rich to begin with and then all the smaug vintage.
