Galadriel is my favourite elf and one of my favourite characters. Unfortunately, people don't appreciate her much, preferring to choose Elrond or Gandalf instead. This is a thread decicated to her. "A queen she was of the woodland elves...yet she herself was of the Noldor and remembered the Day before days in Valinor, and she was the mightiest and fairest of the elves who dwelt in Middle Earth." - The Silmarillion.

I do prefer Gandalf and Feanor but Galadriel does rule. She was one of the few who had the will to withstand Feanor, he begged her for some of her golden hair 3 times and she said no. And he was her uncle too. Also, she was able to escape the wars of the first age. She also was able to frighten almost all people out of her realm in the second and third ages. She was the mightiest of the noldor next to Feanor and all that good stuff. Plus she attained lots of wisdom and lore from Melian the maia and probably Aule and other valar as well. Lots of good stuff about her.

Indeed, she was an avid student of Melian's. Plus she did have a lo of willpower and was origninally one of the leadres of the rebellion. In the second and third ages she was the most powerful elf, even though most people choose to overlook her and idolize Elrond.

I do think she was more powerful than Elrond. Plus she had power OVER elrond, her daughter was the love of his life. But Elrond is more included in the stories so it's no wonder that people focus on him as opposed to the lady of the golden wood. Even actual people in middle earth didn't appreciate her, Eorl feared her and most in Gondor thought she was a deadly witch. As did Gimli. But Gimli learned. I wonder what the valar did with her when she returned? Any sort of penance? More likely she got rewards for her valour against Sauron.

I always though of her and Sauron becoming a sort of remebrance to the days of Beleriand, when Melian was against Morgoth. Now their apprentices are against each other. And yes BSam she's hawt.

Galadriel and Melian basically played the same role, powerful woman who provides a forest of shelter that few can enter. And both realms eventually fell though Doriath was more tragic. But Galadriel in the third age didn't really take an active position against sauron did she? At least not after the white council was disbanded.

And no, I don't think she did much afetr that. Although her forest did provide sheleter and most importantly hope.

All members of the white council were leaders in some respect. Saruman was the true leader though. If Galadriel had had her way the leader would've been Gandalf though. It says that several times but I can't remember where.

At the end of the Silmarillion. However, Mithrandir refuses.

Yeah he does cause he doesn't like being ruler. I'm still wondering why Radagast didn't go back to valinor at the end of rotk.

I always found it odd how nenya(white) was called the ring of water whilst Vilya(blue) was called the ring of air...

I love Galadriel. Devotedly.
I also love that scene at the end of ROTK when Gimli says to Eomer (paraphrasing), on the subject of Arwen and Galadriel "Then I forgive you. Your love is given to the evening; but mine to the morning, which I fear will soon pass on forever..."
She was also one of Tolkien's favourites, as can be seen from the attention he lavished on her.

Everyone sounds so smart. *shrinks*
I love Galadriel. She's one of my favourite characters, and my favourite elf. I like how she's the only one who kept her Ring of Power over all of the ages, whilst the other rings changed hands. She is teh rawkness.
