Of course, in Sebald's original code, it was the actual ring of a bell that was the signal for it to start and stop . When it's adapted for use in letters, etc., the word 'ring' is used instead. Is it always 'ring', or can it be 'ringing'?

Is it always 'ring', or can it be 'ringing' It seems that one of the U.A. Sebald Codes starts with a "ringing," so TPP is definitely a slip-up. Best to quietly ignore it, I think. Perhaps, where there's a genuine "ring," it supercedes "ringing"?

I was also confused when one of them says "Ring!" "Ring! I shouldn't have to..." then wouldn't the word "ring" actually be the first word? Or can ring even be in the sebald code?

Consecutive "ring"s where they would denote the start of the code can probably be ignored, too. I see it as a potential way of "prodding" people who might not immediately realise that someone just saying "ring" means they're using the Sebald Code. Oh dear... what with this and the fact that the Sebald Code is circled for us nearly every time it appears in the series, one begins to fear it's not helped us very much.

That bit in Chapter 2 of TPP, "a previously unknown sibling"; could it refer to the second Beatrice? At the time they were with Kit Snicket, who was still carrying Beatrice, and in a way the child was an adopted sibling to them. However, I'm probably looking to far into into the matter.

I'm afraid you probably are, yes. I don't think Beatrice would count as a previously unknown sibling, because she's not a sibling, and at that point she hasn't even been born yet. It'd be a bit fatalistic to think of her as a sibling back in TPP.
