That makes a lot of sense. I think I once had a similar, but less detailed, idea. Hector's father might have dropped out of VFD at the time of the schism (not joined the bad side, just said 'Stuff that for a lark' and given up). I think you might also connect this with the carrier crows. I don't think the VFD crows can themselves be carrier crows for the other VFD - it doesn't fit with what we know about their movements - but perhaps the carrier crows were recruited from among them, and Hector's father was involved in this. I agree that the V. Fire D. carrier crows seem most likely to have been recruited from among the V. Fowl D. crows. I think that's the most likely explanation we're going to get that's also interesting. Had it stored there for safe-keeping rather than carting it about the whole hotel? Something to look at when we get to TPP.

Maybe he dumped his car at the top of Mount Fraught and a volunteer retrieved it later, hence why Frank/Ernest (I don't remember which is the good one) is guarding it in TPP?

It's entirely possible. The car is never mentioned after TSS, although it apparently appears in the Chapter Five illustration for The End (as detritus - indeed, so does a fridge).

It's mentioned in TGG that he 'made his way to the bottom of the mountain', with no mention to transport; his car was useless and he was in a hurry, so even if he had a spare tyre I doubt he'd have used it. He almost certainly didn't get from the mountains to the city without any transport, though...something not thought of when making the harpoon gun from TVV the same harpoon gun from TPP/TE?
Are we starting THH soon?

I'm busy with work again, and won't have the energy for a full reread, but there are a couple of things I'll point out once you're a couple of chapters in. Good luck.

I'm pretty busy at the moment as well, so I'd be quite happy to hold it over.
By the way, does anyone know what's happened to Sora? He hasn't been visible either here or at the fanfiction section for quite a while. Is he all right?

Probably just busy with work. If you're all champing at the bit to get on with THH in the next few days and he doesn't manifest, I'll conjure up a topic, but I don't want to muscle in on his territory.

Well, I'm certainly not champing at the bit, and neither, it seems, are you, so I think it would be fair to wait. (cwm, are you OK with this?)

Actually, to be honest, I'm pretty anxious to move onto The Hostile Hospital.
Actually, I don't see why the old topics can't continue discussion. I was hoping that there'd be more discussion for The Austere Academy, in fact.

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry - I wasn't thinking of you as one of the regulars, I guess because you only joined us recently, but that's very unfair of me. In that case I withdraw my objection. I can probably manage to join in if I plan my time more efficiently - otherwise I'll just sit and comment from the sidelines. (And yes, more discussion of TAA would be fun.)

Go ahead. We're capable of posting in more than one thread.
Edit: That remark was directed at quagmire44's point about TAA. Tomorrow seems a good time to start THH, if we've exhausted TVV and people are anxious to move on.

Might try and catch up to join in with the next discussion. It's been a while since I've read the series as a whole.. ..or maybe I should just stop procrastinating and get on with studying for my exams! *dispair*

Many people hate TVV and think it's the worst book on the series. I beg to differ. I really liked this book, although the ending was very frustrating, I allways like when the Baudelaire are in good company- Hector- and I absolutely love the Quagmires and I thought the reencounter was really great, but it was sad that it in the end they never meet again. (I'm sorry if I'm wrong by saying they will never meet again, I only read to the seventh book.

Hey csc, it might be best if you hurried up and read the remainder of the books fast, or you'll be in great danger of being spoiled. I hope you enjoy what is to come!

@csc: Yeah. Don't make the mistake I made of navigating through The Gloom Looms and The End sections of Bothersome Books. You'll get spoiled, whether you like it or not.
