As Bertrand and Geraldine strode forward, they smiled down at the two small children. With them was a man with shocking white hair, who was pushing them on the swings.
“Hello,” Bertrand said, taking no notice of the curious look on the older girl’s face. “I’m Bertrand Baudelaire. And this is my friend, Geraldine Julienne.”
[Yes, that definitely sounds like it’s French. I'll bet it's good!]

"My name is Dr. Emmett Brown," Doc replied, nervously - as he stuck out his hand. He knew that the Baudelaires' father was named Bertrand - and they told him about Geraldine Julienne, and she worked for a tabloid-like newspaper, called The Daily Punctilio. However, this couple looked much younger.
"Daddy?" asked Sunny, in a tiny voice. Of course, when her father died, she was still an infant. However, she's seen photos of her parents - and this Bertrand did, strangely enough, look like a younger version of her father. "You look just like Daddy!"

Bertrand couldn’t help but laugh, as he accepted the older man’s hand. The little girl— whose hair was the color of sunshine —had obviously confused him with her own father. Still, Bertrand found the idea very flattering, as he wanted very much to be a father someday. He had yet to pop the question to Esmé, but was planning to do so as soon as the time was right.
“I’m afraid you have me confused with someone else,” Bertrand said, as he squatted down to talk to the sunny-haired girl.

"My daddy looked a lot like you," explained Sunny. "He died, though, when I was just a baby."
"The kids have really been through a lot," added Doc, as he shook Bertrand's hand.

“I’m terribly sorry to hear that,” Bertrand replied.
“We’re down from school for the weekend,” Geraldine said. “To visit some friends of ours.”

"That sounds nice," Doc replied, nodding. "Sunny's life was very hard, being persued by Count Olaf and all."

Bertrand’s eyes widened at the utterance about his girlfriend’s guardian. “Pardon me,” he said, thinking that perhaps he’d misheard Dr. Brown. “But you don’t happen to be referring to the actor, do you?” [That’s my last post for the night, I’m afraid. It’s bedtime for me now. ]

"Apparently, he was an actor," replied Doc, nervously, "but he died on that island, over four years ago."

Bertrand and Geraldine exchanged disbelieving looks.
“I must admit I find this bit of news very strange,” he admitted. “Unless we’re talking about Count Olaf’s father— whose name is William —then I fail to see how what you’re saying makes any sense.”
Geraldine did her best to stop an argument from breaking out between her friend and Dr. Brown. “Where are you from?” she asked.

"I'm from Hill Valley," explained Doc, deciding that it was best to just drop the conversation. He could barely believe what he was hearing, but he'd have time later to make sense of all the madness. "I'm a student of all sciences, and I was the last guardian for the Baudelaire and Quagmire children."
"I wonder if this Bertrand might be a distant cousin, or something," suggested Sunny.

Bertrand was willing to bet this could quite possibly be true. He had several cousins on each of his parents’ sides who worked closely with V.F.D., but most of them were older than he was. He would be turning nineteen soon, and so it didn’t make sense that his cousins would have a guardian— especially one he had never heard of.
He would have liked to ask Doc about V.F.D., but wasn’t sure if it would be wise. After all, not everyone was aware that the organization existed. If Doc turned out not to be an associate, then the results could be disastrous.

OOC: That sounds cool.
"Well, Baudelaire isn't a very common name," commented Doc, softly. "Still, I suppose..." He looked around, before asking, "Hey, would you kids like to go out for ice cream?"
"Of course," replied Sunny, cheerfully.
"Yippee!" squealed Beatrice, as she hopped off the swing.

Bertrand looked to Geraldine, who nodded her approval.
“It’s going to be a while before Monty and Jerome arrive,” she said. “So we might as well make the most of it.”
Bertrand smiled, and turned back to Dr. Brown. “That’s very kind of you,” Bertrand said. “We’d be happy to join you.”

"That's be cool," replied Doc, smiling.
Bertrand and Geraldine both seemed to be nice enough, even though the latter shared a name with the woman who made trouble for the Baudelaire children. Still, it wasn't her fault that her name happened to be the same - nor was it even her parents' fault, for that matter.
He still couldn't shake off the feeling that something seemed a little... Well, meeting two people in the same place who happened to share names with people who have been a part of the Baudelaire children's lives seemed to be too much of a coincidence. Not to mention that Bertrand even looked like a younger version of the Baudelaires' father, who he had seen photos of. He wasn't sure of Geraldine, as he had never met the one who worked for The Daily Punctilio.
Excitedly, Sunny and Beatrice are skipping behind Doc

During the stroll to the ice-cream parlor, Bertrand and Geraldine were unable to take their eyes off Sunny and Beatrice. Neither Bertrand nor Geraldine had missed the similarities in the two children: while Sunny strongly resembled the Beatrice they knew, the much younger Beatrice reminded them of someone else entirely.
The group soon arrived at the ice-cream parlor and went inside. While Dr. Brown went up to the counter to order five ice-cream cones, Bertrand and Geraldine escorted the two children over to a small booth to sit down.
“So, Sunny,” Geraldine asked, smiling. “Do you go to school around here?”
