Jerome of all people knew this to be true. Therefore, even if he had been willing to argue, he would not have been able to offer much of a motive.
“Well, I see no reason to argue with you about that,” he said.

"Let's about something a little more cheerful," suggested Artie. "Not that I'm meaning to dismiss your feelings, Jerome - but, if this is upsetting to you, then..."
"Have you ever considered playing guitar?" asked Marty. "I was in kindergarten, and it was shortly after I met Zach, when I decided that I wanted to play the guitar."
OOC: BTW, in this universe, Marty does have a problem with being called "chicken".

“The only instrument I’ve ever played was piano,” Jerome said. “But it ended much like the tennis lessons did.”

"I never really took any interest in the piano," replied Marty, softly. "While some of my friends were taking piano lessons, I was learning to play the electric guitar. Y'know, if I ever do become a famous rock star, I might play a few power ballads here and there. It's almost as if it's some some of requirement. I would never do anything 'unplugged', though."
"Oh, Marty, I really do think you need to expand your horizons," Artie insisted, laughing. "So, Jerome, what all music do you like?"
"He does like Huey Lewis and The News," Marty explained, smiling, "and VFD."
OCC: Yeah, I think you're right. Even though, Marty really doesn't have a problem with other people being "chicken". He just doesn't like people thinking that of him.

“It’s true,” Jerome highlighted. “I’m also quite fond of the Beatles.”
Now that he’d had some time to settle in with his new compatriots, Jerome Squalor was beginning to relax a little. He felt much more at ease with Marty and Artie than he did with the boys at the Squalors’ snooty country club.
“I also collect stamps,” Jerome went on, mildly pleased with himself for coming out of his shell. “Different ones, from every corner of the globe. My grandfather got me started on the hobby when I was a child.”
[Yeah, that’s what I gathered from the films. I can relate to the whole part about Marty worrying what other people think of him.]

"What kind of stamps?" Marty asked, with interest. "You mean the kind that you use for mailing. When I was younger, I used to collect rocks - but I gave that up, awhile back. I really love Sabrina Palmer's crystal collection. You should see that, sometime."
"Yeah, they come in all different colours," added Artie. "It's pretty. Sabrina is about ten years older than us."
"Say, Jerome, do you like to be tickled?" Marty asked, smiling.
OOC: In my major universe where Marty has a twin, the twin's name is "Calvin" - named after "Calvin Klein", of course. Essentially, Marty returns from 1955 - and then, after waking up the next day, he's shocked to discover that he has a twin brother.

“Uh… not really,” Jerome said, blushing. “I suppose if I had a girlfriend it would be different, but…” He shrugged.
As children, Jerome and Andrew Squalor had gotten into quite a few scuffles in which they’d ended up tickling each other. Andrew had always gone straight for his big brother’s stomach, and the result had always left poor Jerome begging for mercy.
[The part where Marty asked Jerome if he liked to be tickled was so cute and unexpected that I actually LOL’d. ;D
It was very clever of you to name Marty’s twin “Calvin” after Calvin Klein in your major BTTF universe. I can just imagine Marty’s shock when he woke up and found out he had a twin brother.]

"Jennifer likes to tickle me," explained Marty, softly, "as well as Artie. Pretty much, I do enjoy being tickled. The soles of my feet are an exception, though. They are so unbearably ticklish, I absolutely hate being tickled there!" "Same here," agreed Artie, nodding. "Then, again, we are identical twins!" OCC: Hey, thanks! Yeah, I have a theory that, eventually, Marty gains a new set of memories. So, within time, Marty does have memories of growing up with his twin.

“For me,” Jerome said, “it’s my stomach. When we were younger, my brother and I used to get into what Mother referred to as ‘Tickle Tackles’. Every time we did, Andrew would always go for my stomach.” Within the time he had spent talking about being tickled, Jerome’s round face had gone very red indeed. [You’re welcome! That is such a cool idea about Marty gaining new memories of him and Artie growing up together.]

"I'm pretty ticklish on my belly, as well," replied Marty, "as well as my sides and my ribs. The soles of my feet, though... Well, I think even just ten seconds of being tickled there is pure torture."
"At any rate," added Artie, "what are your favourite songs by VFD?"
OCC: In a way, it's kind of ironic that this version of Marty is a big fan of Very Fine Dudes - since it's a band that I came up with strictly for the ASOUE Universe. They don't exist in any of my normal BTTF universes.

“Lost Ties is by far my favorite,” Jerome said. “Blue Melody Academy— the school I used to go to—once hosted a dance in which that song was played, and it’s been my favorite ever since. Another favorite song of mine by Very Fine Dudes is In Her Eyes.”[I think I remember you mentioning Very Fine Dudes to me once while we were discussing V.F.D. phrases. And I think it’s cool that Marty is a fan of the band in this universe. The song Lost Ties is actually the title of the first Jesmé one-shot I ever wrote. I’m really bad at coming up with fictional song titles, so I decided to use the title of my fic. ;D]

"Those are such beautiful songs!" gushed Artie, as he flashed a lopsided smile.
"So, uh, Jerome," added Marty, "are you feeling nervous about starting a new school?"
OOC: That sounds cool.

This was a thought that Jerome had been trying to push to the back of his mind ever since the move from San Francisco to California. “Actually,” he said, “I’m terrified. As much as I’ve always wanted to attend public school, there’s no denying that the very idea has made me a nervous wreck.” [Thanks. ]

"I can understand what you mean," Marty replied, softly. Having grown up in Hill Valley, he never really had to cope with attending a new school. Still, he could imagine how terrifying the situation must be. He felt nervous about attending college, next fall - even though he planned to go to the local college in Hill Valley. "Well, Artie and I could help you adjust." "If you're gonna be in the same grade as us," added Artie, "I'm sure that we'd have a few classes, together." "Perhaps, Jerome, we might have home ec together," Marty added, smiling. "That's my favourite class, after lunch and study hall." OOC: I've been busy, the past few days. Also, today is my birthday. I just turned 32.

At the mention of this, a small smile began to move stealthily around the corner of Jerome’s mouth. During the four years of studying home economics, he had never met another boy who shared his interest— let alone had the nerve to take the class. “Really?” Jerome asked, and blinked his green eyes in surprise at Marty. “Mine, too.” [It’s O.K., I totally understand that you have a life outside of the internet. I was actually planning to PM you tomorrow if I didn’t see you, just to make sure everything was alright. And today is your birthday? It’s my mother’s birthday, too! (Well, yesterday, considering it's after midnight here.) Happy birthday, Quags! I hope yours was wonderful and that you have fun being thirty-two. ]
