OK, so I did a random google search recently, and I fond out that at least some of the pages in the LS site were hacked by spammers engaged in credit card fraud and so-called Canadian Pharmacy scams. Viewing the source for those pages will reveal a cloaked redirect and text typical of a pill spam message. I would've emailed them regarding this, but I'm afraid they might ignore my concerns, so I decided to report it here, hoping for someone to bring this to Mr. Handler, or his associates' attention. With all due respect.

Good call. Those pages all seem to be obsolete, but nevertheless it's clear they have been spamjacked. I found a help address for HarperCollins which I think might deal with this sort of thing, and e-mailed them about it, and I advise you to do the same.

I wonder if this is connected with the TBB being cut short on the online Browse Inside program. Though that is probably more difficult to hack and more likely to be a HarperCollins or Browse Inside issue; still, they seem to be having a number of problems these days.

Not problems, Sherry Ann, unfortunate events. Yes, I guess the Browse Inside issue could be connected, but you're right, it would be harder to hack. All we can do now is hope Dante gets a (productive) email back.
With all due respect.

Speaking of which, what e-mail source did you use? If enough people send notifications, perhaps they'll be able to fix it.

So the problem's still there? They really need to get their act together - although, fair enough, I'm sure HC has more pressing work to do on websites associated with newer authors.

True, they could at least keep the site working though

It makes me sad that the page where it tells you about Lemony Snicket store visits still has stuff only from 2008.

Progress achieved: I don't know how long it's been like this - long enough for LemonySnicket.com to show up on Google as "Maintenance." Let's check back in a couple of days and hope that the reason they're performing maintenance is because of the issues we've raised.

I noticed this yesterday, but wasn't sure if it was a regular thing for LS.com (some websites do maintenance weekly, monthly, or sometimes annually). I think it's safe to say its been that way since Saturday, though, because Friday I visited and everything was still there.

I've never seen LS.com this way before, and given that we've identified a couple of issues the site has, it makes some sense that perhaps they're fixing it. I would suspect it's that, anyway, since they don't usually signpost the addition of new content, but a Maintenance screen is more likely because they don't want people to see the things that are broken... Odd that it's been that way since Saturday and not Friday, though; I wouldn't have expected them to be doing much work on it over the weekend.

They can still not be working on it and just have the screen there until they can get to it. As you say, they probably don't want anyone to encounter a bunch of spamjacked links and a homepage of empty promises.

Though Google still lists it under "Maintenance", LS.com is up and running, advertizing for 13 Words.
