While looking through The End again I got thinking about Thursday and Miranda and all the things not known about them. Ishmael mentions that Thursday had been on the island but "...Thursday left with a few comrades." He continues and says "...but at my suggestion, Miranda told her daughter that he died in a storm, so she wouldn't worry about the schism that divided her parents."
Who were Thursday's "comrades"? Why didn't Miranda leave with Thursday? What was the schism that divided them? Many questions and I'm hoping someone has a few ideas.

I guess Ishmael just didn't want to scare Baudelaires.

Well, we will never know who Thursday's comrads were, but they probably were other islanders who weren't satisfied with Ishmael's way of leading and stoping the operations the Baudelaire's were controling. That also answers your question about the schism, it was the schism of when Ishmael took over the island and changed everything, trying to keep them safe. In this schism, the ones bothered left with Thursday. Miranda probably didn't go with him because she thought it would be safer for Friday to raise her in the island. I hope I answered your questions .

I assumed that the schism between Thursday and Miranda was the same as that between Fiona and Fernald's parents. They just grew apart; they didn't love each other or want the same things any more. That said, there is, of course, so much potential for it to be a more plotty sort of reason.

I've always assumed that Friday was Fiona and Fernald's youngest sister. Miranda being all of their mothers, and Thursday being the father. I dunno, I just always thought that sibling alliteration seemed like a very snicketesque thing to do.

This has been discussed quite a lot. Basically, Friday can't be the full sister of F and F because their parents separated shortly after Fiona's birth. She could possibly be a half-sister, but most of us think it's more likely she's just a parallel (of which there are quite a few in TE).
