- - - - - Dear Reader, If your neighbors are nice and kind, then reading THE NEFARIOUS NEIGHBORHOOD will only ruin how you view them forever. Violet, Klaus, Sunny and Beatrice Baudelaire have returned to Dark Avenue, and the circumstances which they find themselves in then upon their return are probably the most dangerous they've ever faced, as they move from there to Yoshiwara, the Japanese district, and find themselves in the grips of a powerful Japanese clan. In this tale of treachery, the Baudelaires encounter a lavish inn, an imposter, japanese families, a mysterious biker, the unexpected return of a long lost friend, distressing information, a beautiful courtesan, a complicated plot and potentially lethal meals. If you would like not to ever suspect your neighbors' habits or daily routine, then you should forget this book unread in your lowest or your tallest shelf, to avoid ever having to face such secrets again. With All Due Respect, Tiago Squalor - - - - -

"A tale of treachery", eh? That sounds most...treacherous! The "long lost friend" could be just about anyone, I expect. I look forward with much anticipation to their appearance, as well as what more is to come in Book the Eleventh in Yet Another Series of Unfortunate Events.
And "potentially lethal meals"? Uh-oh! I have a few ideas as to what these may entail...

Now that you mention it, my neighbors do strike one as the nice and kind type--certainly they must be up to no good.
Does Klaus speak Japanese, I wonder? And I think I spotted some foreshadowing to this setting in TPP. In any case, this looks toward yet another exciting installment, and I await it with heightened anticipation.

I had to wait 'til this morning to see the new title, but it's a very creative one; I'm impressed. Is there a Japanese influence in the title's font, too? A lot of the items in the Dear Reader letter are quite suggestive... I look forward to seeing this get started.

A courtesan? For shame, Tiago! I don't think Lemony, despite his boldness in handling some topics often seen as adult, would have got away with that.
Anyhow, I look forward to this with interest.

Oh, I completely forgot about Tiago's excessive skill in art! Thanks for reminding me, colette (: I should know, the art on my banner was done by him, haha :)

I would never forget his brilliant drawing of Colette the contortionist!!!No wonder that Tiago become The Best Artist this April. I am so jealous, you know I am a mediocre artist, although I love drawing and painting.

The 'courtesan' character is a minor one, an oiran. She will appear only as a companion to another character. There will be no sex scenes you can be sure of that much. ^^ It's that the original Yoshiwara, of Tokyo, was the red light district, and I wanted to include a lot of japanese culture in this book. I do hope I don't offend anyone.

Oh dear, I fear people are taking my comment much too seriously. I meant it as a joke - I think 'for shame' normally has an ironic tinge to it. No, I'm sure no one will be offended.

I agree with Hermes: you always write with such obvious heart and respect for every single one of your characters, Tiago. I sincerely doubt 'offensive' is a word that will ever cross anyone's minds, so don't worry.

Yoshiwara - - - - - Dear M.R.,
This is a picture of Yoshiwara, the japanese district in the city. You can see the buildings of Dark Avenue in the distance. The largest building in Yoshiwara is the House of Red Leaves. I have to get a kimono so I can investigate what happened there without arising suspicion. The Yazawas are all gone so I'll have an easier time finding out what exactly happened to the Baudelaires while they were being held hostage there.
Yours truly,
