1. Hector( He is cute!) 2. Uncle Monty 3. Esme Squalor( she is a nasty woman but a great character) 4. Sir( he is a bad guardian but an interesting character) 5.Count Olaf( a terrible person but his romances with Esme, Lulu and Kit are so sweet). 6. Jeroma Squalor. 7. Aunt Josephine( her fears and phobias annoyed me) 8. Nero( He is SO annoying! I REALLY dislike him)

Are we also counting the unofficial guardians - that is, Hal, Olivia, Bruce (and sometimes even Quigley), Widdershins, and Dewey? I'm sure it would be quite hard to decide how to rank some of those.
For my part... I don't think I could write a full list, but my impression has often been that Charles, Jerome, and Hector are rather similar. The latter two even get the same kind of character development. I think my personal favourites are the guardians who are clearly villainous but not actually allied with Olaf - that is, Sir and Nero. I think that standing between the two sides gives them a lot of potential for interesting situations of conflict - but there's also the fact that they are genuinely quite amusing.

Uncle Monty, because he was the best for the children. He was an attentive, caring guardian who was genuinely interested in the welfare of the Baudelaires, and willing to take steps to protect them, to a degree more than guardians like Josephine, Hector or Jerome.

Uncle Monty is my number one! I love him ! But I can't make a list with the others. It's just so hard. But colette's list is really good, I think mine will be very similar.

Uncle Monty, because he was the best for the children. Sorry, it is not an answer. You need to RATE them!

I'm not sure exactly in what order I would put them, but Captain Widdershins and Esme Squalor are definitely two of my favorites.

He's a character who both amuses and intrigues. He has secrets we'd all be interested to learn, and also he captains a submarine, which counts for a lot among some of us. He's not my favourite guardian, but I can see why he might be someone's.

Captain Widdershins is OK. But not more than OK for me. The only member of Widdershins family I like is Fernald. But Captain was their boss, not their guardian!

But Captain was their boss, not their guardian! So? Sir considered himself their boss more than he considered himself their guardian. The Baudelaire's had plenty of unofficial guardians anyway so really anyone older than them that they spent time with, or lived with, could be an unofficial guardian. I like Aunt Josephine best, she's an interesting character and there's a lot of mystery involved there. My least favorite was the Devotee's... They weren't really that interesting, they were mainly just jerks with a blood lust and at times it was hard to read through their endlessly stupid comments (I swear there must have been a chemical spill for people to develop such twisted logic).

Well I like Captain WIddershins because, as Dante said, he's amusing. I didn't think he was the most caring or effective guardian, but I think he's a very interesting character. The guardian I would most enjoy living with would definitely be Uncle Monty.
Edit: I also like Nero for the fact that he is down right ridiculous.

The dramatic irony in TRR with Uncle Monty was strong, I felt, but I also enjoyed Nero's absurd conduct and the Village of Fowl Devotees' logic.
