I suppose I tend to see Betrand in a not-so-noble light because of the song "Shipwrecked" by the Gothic Archies. I let it's hidden messages influence my point of view a little too much, I guess. If you haven't heard it, I would suggest listening to it and the rest of the album. The songs are very interesting and add a new spark to ASoUE.

What is the hidden message in Shipwrecked?

I wouldn't really take the songs as canon in that way, but in any case: brunch, what I presume Leanora's referring to is the fact that the song is about a man and a woman who become castaways, and this is thanks partly to the growing insanity of the man in question. I suppose you think, Leanora, that this is intended to parallel Bertrand and Beatrice's arrival on the island in similar circumstances?

I think it was because she read that Lemony Snicket was dead. It turned out that something happened and newspaper people posted it in the newspaper and then she read it. After reading it she believed it and married the Baudelaire's father. Then she realized later that he actually didn't die, but she was already in love with who she had married that she said sorry, and continued on with her life. Of course, she stayed in touch with Lemony Snicket, but she couldn't marry him.

That's a very accurate summary ^^ welcome to the forum as24623! @dante Yes. I listened to the song and the lyrics. I think the lyrics are written for humor value, but who knows the could be about Beatrice and Bertrand.

@dante, I don't necessarily take the songs as canon, but I do think they're interesting. And yes, I did take the song to mean Bertrand and Beatrice. Is it referring to someone else?

I don't think it's referring to anyone, any more than Walking My Gargoyle is. The songs spin off from snapshots or motifs from the books and go in their own direction. I don't think they exist in a concrete, constructive relation, parallel the books in meaningful ways, or contain secrets that can be imported into the canon.

meh. The songs are fun, and they add a new kind of cool element to the whole series.

I kinda agree with the "meh". I might be the only one, but I didn't find the songs so great. In the forum I see people saying they love them, listen to them... They're sorta funny, I guess. But I wished that they had something to do with the canon. Otherwise it's just a meh humour. But that's just my opinion.

I think scream and run away is good, I listen to that a lot.....but the rest....the rest are just fun, nothing really else.

By the way, I was surprised when I find out that Beatrice was the Baudelaire Orphn's mother. Did it surprise you, as well ?

I think it probably didn't really surprise a lot of people; it had been the leading theory on Beatrice's identity for a long time.

I don't really like the songs musically, I just find them interesting. I, too, agree with the "meh."

The songs are interesting. And back to Beatrice.....I did kind of see it coming that she was the Baudelaire's mum, but in a way I think it would've been more fun if it had come as a complete surprise.
