Well, I've just read Chapter Three, and was very pleased to see my wish for more surprises come true. I've always thought the Baudelaires and Quagmires should be reunited, and the return of Hector was wonderful to see as well. And he has a scar now, too! *dreamy sigh* You already know my thoughts on handsome men and visible scars, so no need for me to go into heaps of detail. ^^ I especially liked Duncan's comment on the Baudelaires' unfortunate adventures making a good book, along with Klaus' "It would make for a drab read." One doesn't normally find themselves forced to disagree with Klaus Baudelaire, which is what makes that comment so humorous. I wonder how he'd feel, if he knew his and his siblings' tale was already being told and enjoyed by many? I feel so sad for poor Augusten, yet at the same time greatly admire his strength and maturity. I wonder who Violet will choose, in the end, or if she will simply remain alone? (Not necessarily by choice, of course. In which case, that gives me much to worry about.) So Nemo is actually on the side of our heroes, is he? I should've guessed! I'm also intrigued to know just how deep his knowledge regarding the Great Unknown involves. He certainly gives new meaning to the saying, "It's always the quiet ones." ;D However, it's obvious from Dominique's personality and intentions that there was more to her reason for abandoning her son and daughter than a mere broken dish. I just wanted to point out that I intended to say "father", not "son". Curse my mediocre proofreading abilities! XD Emma's comment suddenly makes me wonder whether Cindry subconsciously wanted to destroy the sugar bowl and release (or destroy?) its precious cargo. Probably a barmy idea, but there it strikes! Aww, really? How smashing! (Not sure if the pun there was intended or not. ) Anyway, I'm very glad my comment was able to stir some new theories for you, Dante.

Cindry's character was inspired by a character from One Piece who also has an obsession with breaking dishes, named Victoria Cindry (where I got the name for both Cindry and her aunt). A pretty funny character at that. Also, the arc of the story where this Cindry appears inspired the name of the title and setting of book the tenth in YASoUE. The Fulfillments are largely connected to One Piece. ^^

I'm going to have to track down that episode of One Piece, if only for the sake of feeding my Yet Another Series of Unfortunate Events obsession. After all, it's what inspired me to want to read Running with Scissors, which is now a favorite book and film of mine, so... (Chapter Four) I have absolutely no idea where to begin in commenting on the utter brilliance and outright fascination of this chapter! I guess I've no choice but to start at the beginning. Although we've technically already met Nemo, his first appearance was but a glimpse compared to this one. While I don't believe in judging a person solely on how often they speak (for it's happened to me more times than I can count), we certainly learned a lot about Nemo's background from his conversation with the Baudelaires and Quagmires. I was extremely impressed by his detailed explanation of everything surrounding the Grimestone Gear and, of course, the story surrounding his father and V.F.D. I am literally BLOWN AWAY by your historical connection between the Russian Royal Family and ASoUE, Tiago. MY GOD, but you have no idea! It takes a lot of thinking and cleverness to come up with all that, and your effort absolutely shines. ( Was Nemo's grandfather the Grigori Rasputin? Were you inspired by that chapter in Training Days, or was it by mere coincidence that we happened to have come up with ideas that bear a slight resemblance to one another? Tell me! ;D) I was just about to post my comment, when it hit me: that is what was meant in the canon, when it was said that Olaf was a cousin of the Baudelaires'! Of course! What a beautiful, powerful line, and so true! I am by no means a religious person, but your description makes Nemo seem like some kind of guardian angel, sent to save the world from perilous destruction. I can't wait to read Chapter Five, and meet Nemo's aunt. I wonder what she'll be like, and if she's someone we've met before.

The family Nemo, Vladimir and Olaf come from might have distant ties to the royal family (the legendary Romanovs) but they're most definetely not related to Rasputin.
Yes, in my headcanon the Baudelaires are of a french/russian/jewish descent. French and russian on their father's side, with Olaf, Vladimir and Nemo being related more closely to Bertrand Baudelaire, and north american on their mother's side, making them related to both Esmé, Olaf and the man with beard but no hair (Vladimir) and Nemo in one go.

Thank you for responding to my post, Tiago, and so quickly at that. The family Nemo, Vladimir and Olaf come from might have distant ties to the royal family (the legendary Romanovs) but they're most definetely not related to Rasputin. Not knowing the Vladimiroff's exact ties to the Romanovs keeps splendid pace with the mysteries presented throughout the canon. While it's nice to have answers, it's always interesting to speculation and, in the cases of both ASoUE and YASoUE, much more fun. How very interesting! I knew already that the Baudelaires were of Jewish descent, ever since Esme was revealed to be their aunt, but was in the dark about the French and Russian. It never occurred to me that Olaf and Bertrand were related, though I feel that it should have, after reading this chapter. ^^'' By the way, do the Finches have any French in them? It's just that I've always had a hunch Esme was part French, just because of her name. I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything, but was curious about what your thoughts are, on that, what with her being your favorite character, and all.

By the way, Tiago, was the name 'Vladimir' inspired by Fern and Persimmony Glitchet (where the Olaf-analogue is called Duke Vladimir)?

Hermes: No, though I did see it. I just wanted a russian name for him, as for some reason he'd always struck me as a russian, I don't know why. Maybe I saw too many Bond movies. XD

Like YASoUE is nearing its end - for me, anyway - so are the Darkies, so I'll have time to catch up with all I've been missing in Fearsome Fiction. Which is good, as I have ideas brewing for more YASoUE fan fan-fiction. Now, time to comment on Chapter Five! You know me and pairings, and romance of any kind, so I was quite delighted by the suggestion of an attraction between Nemo and Isadora. I've never had any desire to explore the Klaus/Isadora pairing in my ficverse, since to me they'll always be no more than good friends. That, and the fact that I see Klaus ending up with Fiona and - since the start of YASoUE - Cindry. But I'm straying off-topic here. The point is, even though I enjoy reading people's take on Kladora, I like seeing Isadora end up with someone new. Hopefully her relationship with Nemo will remain sustained, though with all that's happening, and about to happen, I worry for how long such a thing will remain feasible. I'm quite taken with the character of Jill, and how her exterior so strongly resembles Dominique. I wonder if they were ever as close as Beatrice and Esme once were, at any point in time? While I understand perfectly well the Baudelaires' misgivings, I feel sorry for Jill, and hope their doubt is eventually set aside. You didn't name Jill after Jill Clayburgh, by any chance, did you? I know we share a mutual love of her, and considering she and your character are both blondes, it got me curious enough to ask. One thing I wanted to mention in my last review but forgot was the parallel of Desmond's relationship with Dominique to Jerome's with Esme. These poor, lovesick men, falling prey to the heartless schemes of beautiful women! However, I think the way Dominique has tricked Desmond is ten times worse than the way Esme tricked Jerome. Not only did Dominique hurt Cindry, but used her the way someone uses a feather duster. It's probably just my mind over-analyzing things, but I'm beginning to see where Cindry's obsessive-compulsive behaviors originated from... Considering all that is about to go "down" in Dread Down, my concerns for everyone in this story are steadily rising. However, I'm impressed by the connection you've drawn between the Baudelaires' belief that they've sacrificed lives in exchange for a certain motive in ASoUE and YASoUE.

@emmz: It's always a joy to find another comment by you on one of my fics.^^ Isanemo is a go! ^^ They've actually been in a relationship for some time, but with nothing but a few stolen moments, there wasn't much time to do anything. I like the mix of Isadora's outgoing persona and Nemo's introspective one. They complement each other in many ways, which will become more obvious with time. Jill is a favorite of mine. A character I've created long before this fic had started, much in the way Desmond was already living inside my head since the start of YASoUE, and that I waited LONG to introduce. I'm glad you like her, Emmz. Jill's name and appearance are drawn from this badass lady here: finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Jihl_NabaatJihl Nabaat is a villain in Final Fantasy 13, and so her appearance made such an impression on me that I began imagining the WWHBNB/Dominique and Jill as both looking very much like her. If you want to imagine Jill Nebra as she appears in the story, it's not far from that character. A very vallid parallel, I must say. I had never noticed it, but now that you've mentioned, it seems quite obvious. It's a sort of similar dynamic except Desmond is much corageous than Jerome was, and isn't dominated by Dominique (pun intended) as Esmé dominated Jerome, and Dominique is in a different tier of villainy compared to Esmé.
