Why was Daniel Handler born 25 years earlier if he and Lemony are different people? I don't understand that. Besides, there were two L's at that meeting. How do you know that the L that D was asked to represent was Lemony?
You're probably also the only one I know who imagines Count Olaf actually being younger than Jerome and Justice Strauss.

Oops, you're right. I'll get them added, right away.
As for your other question, I guess I never really saw any reason why L and D couldn't be Lemony and Daniel - but, for what it's worth, I hadn't really put much thought into that VFD meeting. Just that I figured it took place in 1965, around the schism. I guess I tend to focus mainly on the post-series events.

Jacques and Kit being twins seems like a popular opinion on these boards. Don't know where it came from.
Edgar and Albert being born two years apart also seems to be a popular opinion. Don't know where that came from either. Nobody else imagines them as twins?
Klaus and Carmelita being born two years apart also seems to be a popular opinion here.

Why was Daniel Handler born 25 years earlier if he and Lemony are different people? I don't understand that. Besides, there were two L's at that meeting. How do you know that the L that D was asked to represent was Lemony? Well, we know from the very opening lines of TUA that Daniel is Lemony's representative, so it seems to fit. And that does mean that his real-life birthdate wouldn't really fit VFDisco's timeline. I would put Jerome in the same broad age-band as the Snickets, the Denouements, Olaf, Beatrice and R, since his being on the mountain-clibuing trip with Beatrice suggests he is about the same age. But I think Strauss must be quite a bit older, since she tells Esme 'When I was your age I spent a long time as a horse-thief', and Esme must also be quite close in age to that group if she appeared in the play that led to Lemony's sacking. Jacques and Kit being twins seems like a popular opinion on these boards. Don't know where it came from. There's an old ASOUE calendar which has their birthdays on the same day - though the way it puts it, something like 'Birthday of Jacques Snicket and also of his sister' might be taken to mean that they were born on the same date in different years. Also the family tree in TUA has their branches rising together, while Lemony's is a little way apart. My own timeline hasn't changed much since we last did it. Benedict and Scholastica Stephenson were born in the same year as Violet, and Jeremy Stephenson in the same year as Klaus. I do have some thoughts on the ages of other characters, but I haven't given them precise dates. Perhaps I'll start a new thread on that.

Rupert and Teddy Quagmire would probably just end up with Stephanie and Stacy Stebbs, and probably Lorraine Baudelaire with Mike Hartford - but I'll probably have Emily end up with either Rhett or Rhonda Winnipeg's son.

Okay, a few more details to add:
* When Violet was very small, she placed an object at the door to eavesdrop on her parents - to see what they might be planning for her birthday. (This would definitely occur during the early-'70s - since she was, very likely, older than two.)
* Klaus learned of his peppermint allergy at a birthday party, when he was eight. He then read all his parents book about allergies. (This would take place in 1977.)
* Klaus read the Encyclopedia Hypnotica just the previous year. (This would take place in 1980.)
* Mr. Remora and Miss Bass taught as Prufrock Prep for more than 47 years. (This means they started teaching sometime during 1934.)
* A long time ago, Klaus read a book on different kinds of fish - and wanted to go fishing. His mother agreed to take him, warning him that it would be boring. He was right. (This would take place some time during the mid-'70s.)
* About twenty years ago, Jerome hiked Mount Fraught with Lemony and Beatrice (This would be around 1961 - which, according to my timeline, meant that Lemony and Beatrice were 16 and 15 [or 17, if I change Beatrice's birth year].)
* Ben gave Violet some elevator blue prints for her birthday (doesn't say which one), which she studied quite closely.
* Several years before the Baudelaires were born, Veblen Hall won the prestigious Door Prize, an award given each year to the city’s best-constructed opening. (This would take place during the early '60s.)
* About 306 years ago, a group of settlers discovered a murder of crows - and decided to live there. They would become the Village of Fowl Devotees. (This would set the year at 1676 or 1675.)
* After Klaus read about the Hinterland sunsets, he and Violet were eager to go. Violet built a solar oven, so that they could have grilled-cheese sandwiches - while watching the sunset. No mention of Sunny. (This likely would set the events during the late-'70s.)
* When Violet and Sunny were young, they got separated from their parents - as the family took a trip to a vineyard. (This would set the events during the mid-'70s.)
* During one summer, Beatrice Baudelaire was reading Anna Karenina - which Klaus enjoyed reading along, but had not been reading for very long. Violet spent most of that summer studying the laws of thermodynamics and building a miniature helicopter out of an eggbeater and some old copper wiring. (This would probably set the year at 1976.)
* Violet remembers here parents singing "The world is quiet here", which was before Violet was born. (I think this would set the year at 1968.)
* Captain Widdershins and Fernald set fire to Anwhistle Aquatics, taking the like of Gregory Anwhistle. (This would set the event either during the late-'60s or the early-'70s.)
What do you think? I'm open to suggestions. Regarding the Anwhistle Aquatics fire, I'd prefer to have it set during the early-'70s. Also, what about the Masked Ball held by R of Winnipeg? When do you think that was set? Do you think there was more than one of them?

* Mr. Remora and Miss Bass taught as Prufrock Prep for more than 47 years. (This means they started teaching sometime during 1934.) That would make them 69 at the youngest. For some reason, I always imagined them being in their 30s or 40s. Probably because they both had black hair in the illustrations.
