sorry for attempting to revive this thread, i was considering (emphasis on the hypothetical) about getting either a brett helequist drawing or vfd tattoo for my birthday and was wondering if anyone (in the past six years since anyone's replied to this lol) has gotten a vfd tattoo? the books taught me a lot about resilience as a kid growing up around 'unfortunate' circumstances. i know a lot of people who have harry potter tattoos etc and the author ended up being a racist terf (obviously handler wouldn't it's just an example), so i would also like to know the perspective of people who have had theirs for a while and whether they regret it and stuff. If the politics, behaviors, or beliefs of the author is a major concern for you, then I would definitely advise against it. Not because Handler in particular is likely to adopt a controversial stance - though he has spoken his share of unfortunate remarks - but because the fact he's still alive alone makes the commitment to a tattoo very risky. On the other hand, if Handler's politics doesn't bother you, then one good piece of advice I've heard is to draw the design of the tattoo on yourself for a year (a short time in a lifetime, but long enough to give you a sense of what it would be like as a permanent fixture). If you still want the same design in the same location at the end of the year, then do it. If you don't, then don't. If you want to change the design or the location, then restart the clock.

I have been seriously considering getting the tattoo as well recently. It is something I have wanted ever since I first read the books as a kid. However, I have the unfortunate condition of fainting whenever needles are present so that has kept me from getting it up to this point.

It's less about Handler (whom I love), but more about how people feel about theirs after a long period of time. I've only been a member for a couple of months and i'd love to hear some older members perspectives, especially Admins such as you. There are a lot of discrepancies over design as shown in these threads.
Would you ever get any of the designs, if so which one? On the other hand, if Handler's politics doesn't bother you

I've only had one tattoo prior, but I just looked away and chatted to my friend who was holding my hand and it went by really quickly!!!!!!!! Because of the machine, you can't see the individual needles as they are grouped together alike a pen I have been seriously considering getting the tattoo as well recently. However, I did find some discussions on design / placement here and here and here. I may be mistaken, but I think Emma “Emmz” Squalor might have posted about a V.F.D. tattoo she committed to at some point?

You were correct, I found this whilst digging for some photos of VFD tattoos, but as it was so long ago the image is unavailable:Emma “Emmz” Squalor Avatar Jan 31, 2009 10:07:32 GMT 11 Emma “Emmz” Squalor said: I have the V.F.D. eye insignia tattooed on my upper right arm, which I got back in December of 2007 (I know it's backwards, but I still really like it and that's what counts).

Swipe to the second pic to see mine: http://instagram.com/p/BnjBQByB-ZM I got mine back in 2009 I think? I designed it myself based on several of the book illustrations. I'm very proud of how it looks and proud to have it as a part of me!
