Went to see it today with friends. I liked the movie a lot, but my friends (who hadn't read the book) thought the start was slow, and they found it quite hard to follow. I was giving whispered explanations all though the film. The ending was a bit off too, and I think they could've spent more time on the actual games.

Not much time spent on the Games themselves? Now that I think about it, that may have occurred to me with regard to... at least the second book.

One thing that really seemed rushed was the bit where Peeta is dying; there was no on-the-edge-of-your-seat desperation, he was just given the medicine and then he lived.

That is very true. Also, when Katniss went to pick up his medicine, in the book, she had to drug Peeta, because he didn't want her to die for him. In the movie, it seems that he didn't even care.

Out of curiosty, I listened to Safe & Sound. It actually fit in with the tone of the movie well!

I was giving whispered explanations all though the film. The ending was a bit off too, and I think they could've spent more time on the actual games. I thought the same thing about the ending, although I like that they (spoiler alert for the first book, I guess) didn't include that party scene at the end. I thought that just kind of took to long to end the book and was just a little weird to see after all of this action. And if I recall, about the first hour of the movie was spent on the introduction and stuff, and then an hour and a half was spent on the games and the ending, right? I kind of expected that from the book, but it was still a little weird. And since they included almost everything from the book, it also made it kind of hard to care about people like (spoiler alert again) Rue when she died, because she only had about five minutes total screen time. Overall though I did really like the movie. Not much time spent on the Games themselves? Now that I think about it, that may have occurred to me with regard to... at least the second book. Same thing here. I'm still reading the second book, but I thought it was a little weird that another games was announced halfway through the book.

I don't know- my friends who hadn't read the books still got very choked up when Rue died, as did I. Cato's death was cut a bit short too.

Even if Rue got so little screentime, she's one of my favorites. Her death scene and the subsequent riot in District 11 made me cry like a little girl. I went to see the movie again yesterday. Also, I read the second book on my computed because I couldn't wait any longer. My mom is holding onto the books that she got me until after I've gone to the doctor and took some tests. She likes blackmail, that woman. Anyway, I want Matt Bomer to play Finnick Odair in the Catching Fire movie. He is just how I pictured Finnick. It's gonna be a long hard wait til November 2013. *goes to cry in a corner*

Rue's one of my favourites too, and she's pretty much how I imagined her from reading the book. However I reckon Katniss's part has been maximised and everyone else's has been minimised a bit. And what happened to Madge? I guess she's not really a main character and they didn't want to use too much time introducing everyone. Some of my friends said that there were too many scenery shots during the Games, but personally I think that the scenery's quite beautiful.

I kept thinking of ways to cross over THG with ASoUE but came up short. I don't want to pit Katniss against Violet. Although I have to say, Violet would probably win if she got picked as tribute. ^~^

Indeed, she has a way to escape deadly situations . Not to mention, she is a very crafty girl. Reminds me a bit of Beetee.

Maybe Violet would be from Distric 3 in a THG/ASoUE mash-up? hehe

I think Violet would do well in the Hunger Games with just the clothes on her back.

I agree that Violet would do well, although she'd have to try and stay away from everyone because she just wouldn't be able to kill anyone. I'm pretty sure that if she was in the Games she would definitely devise a method to destroy the Career pack's supplies.
