- - - - - Dear Reader, Having been to Deluge Dam and registered the woeful happenings the Quagmire triplets faced during the events told here in this book titled THE DANGEROUS DAM, I can safely say that the danger contained in this story is beyond all measure. In this dangerous tale, the Quagmires face a dangerously cracked dam, a corrupt mayor, two feuding families, someone they did not expect to meet, an engineer and his apprentice, and the terrifyingly destructive power of water. If you're not one for dangerous things like certain sports then you're certainly not one for reading this story, and being so, please don't read it as it will put you in grave danger. With all due respect, Tiago Squalor

Well, we know water can break one out of prison. The cracked dam, incidentally, reminds me of the volcano in Adverbs, an impending natural disaster which threatens to tear the story apart if it doesn't move quickly enough. Certainly that won't be a problem here. Looking forward to it, Tiago!

That illustration is definitely very helpful in picturing this strange town, Tiago; I get a very strong impression of it. It reminds me a little bit of Stain'd-by-the-Sea - not necessarily in what those towns are like, but both as towns structured around some bizarre feature, with something very unusual and maybe a little bit dangerous about them. Because, you know. This is the universe of Unfortunate Events. I don't know if that dam will break, but I do know that every single one of us is expecting it.

There was no other way to convey what Deluge Dam exactly looks like other than for me to draw it. A picture is worth a thousand words, and I felt like the town is so complicated and full of detail it would be hard for me to describe it in the books. Sadly I was tired when I drew this - still am - so it kind of sucks. But I feel it lets everyone know what the town looks like satisfactorily, so it's ok I guess. XD

I was a bit reminded of Lachrymose Lake, with the houses appearing to sit on stilts above dangerous bodies of water. Despite any qualms you yourself may have with it, I find it very authentic.

The boiler room of Cid's workshop, an intricate building fully integrated to the heart of Deluge Dam, where the engineer/machinist/inventor/gadgeteer lives and works. - - - - - From the travelling journal of Violet Baudelaire. " Cid Jetsam is a a genius. I've learned a lot from him and his apprentice Martha. I'm considering taking their offer, but not before I find K, S, B, and C, and I, Q, and D too. I couldn't trust Cid and Martha enough with my name so I used another, although I'm also considering telling them the truth about me. Although they have helped me, I doubt they'll be able to help me in my search for my family and friends. " - - - - -

Apparently Violet, then, is safe - for now. I was a little surprised to see C on the list, but I suppose she is in more trouble than any of the others at the moment.

All stories could use a map, but perhaps not one owned by the villains. Although their route doesn't always appear to be terribly well-informed.

From the travelling journals of Violet Baudelaire: Mayor Flotsam's campaign posters were posted all over town. Some had devil's horns sprayed onto Mayor Flotsam's face. Some had "DON'T YA" sprayed across the Mayor's face. Even with detractors, it looks like the Mayor will get re-elected.
Cid uses one of these for target practice with darts. He always manages to hit the nose.

It must be said that he doesn't look like the most sympathetic individual, although I dare say I can imagine what his supporters see in him (he's a strong, no-nonsense leader with years of experience).

And unfortunately it's those supporters, few as they may be, who decide who wins the election. However, I'm curious about what he's done to make himself so unpopular with the public. There's apparently free speech, with the vandalism and dart-throwing, which is good, but how does Flotsam plan to punish his oppressors once in office?
