It is one week before Christmas, and a light snow is falling. You are walking home along Doldrum Drive, dodging the motorcycles and horse-drawn carriages. Normally you walk quickly, taking little notice of your surroundings, but today you pause outside the large mansion at Number Twenty-Four. The front door is partially open. A sense of – adventure? – stirs within you, something you have not felt since you were fourteen, unless you currently are fourteen. The door whispers of rooms to explore, puzzles to solve, codes to crack, secrets to uncover. You are very tempted to go inside. What would you like to do? Continue down the street Enter the mansion

This is brilliant, Q.R.V.! I'll have to give this a closer look later, but this is a uniquely interactive fic.

I spent a goodly amount of time exploring this mansion. I'm not sure if I've found everything, but I've been to a great many places, frequently through secret passages. I don't know if there's a hidden ending, but I've found quite a few letters. I don't know what they spell, though. That may have to wait for a return trip.

This is truly brilliant, QRV! The amount of work that must have gone into it is amazing.
I have not managed to get through the VFDoor, despite knowing the answers, I think. This probably means there are lots of places I have not been. I would take it that the anagram book hides the conclusion, but I don't have enough letters for it.
And I especially liked the bit where one emerged from a secret passage at 667 Dark Avenue.

That's really good! I don't have enough time right now to look at everything, but I hope I can do that tomorrow.

This is awesome. Like Hermes, I liked what you did with the elevator.

Thanks, all! I have not managed to get through the VFDoor, despite knowing the answers, I think. This worries me. I might have made a mistake in the coding, as I've been teaching myself HTML and JS as I go along. It worked fine when I tested it, though. I also might not have included all possible forms of the answer. If you don't mind, could you PM me your answers exactly as you were typing them in?

I'm sure we can share.

I got through the Vernacularly Fastened Door yesterday, so it's not broken, just specific. What is broken is the "Go back" button, which will sometimes lead you into an infinite loop.

Ah - OK, I was misspelling something. The results of the VFDoor were less exciting than I expected, though.

What is broken is the "Go back" button, which will sometimes lead you into an infinite loop. Fixed. (I hope.)

Cheers. When I have a bit more time on my hands, I'll wander the mansion again. I should say that I'm a big fan of interactive fiction of this kind and it brings back some fond memories. I'll try and review the whole house to make sure I didn't miss anything, although I trust that at some point you'll unfold its mysteries in case any of us have overlooked a vital clue.

This is amazing, QRV! Only now have I visited this mansion you've created, and it really is professionally made to the max! I also liked the elevator part, and what was written on the back of the mustard glass, and I especially liked the name reference of Charley Patton, who belongs to my favourite musicians. I haven't figured out the song on the piano though, even though it does sound familiar. Neither have I gotten past the VFD door, I think because I wasn't specific enough, so I'll try it again another time. I've also noticed different single letters from the alphabet being dispersed about the mansion, the letters' purpose of I do not know. And who is E.S.? Are those the wrong questions?
