I've noticed we have a spambot account who seems to be a fairly prolific poster, and I suspect more will follow. Some of its posts contain what appear to be links to child porn and other possibly illegal content (or so they claim, I'm not about to click).
Which brings me to my main point: does the Detriment Deleter custom rank still work? If it does, I would like to volunteer myself for that position. I may not be an active poster, but I do lurk and check Recent Posts (an ideal way to spot spam wherever it may appear).

Other ProBoards users have been reporting such spambots on ProBoards Support. The main recommended way of dealing with them is for the admin (Tragedy) to turn on Restricted Registration, which would require him to personally review each account before it's approved for sign-up. This obviously isn't very practical, especially as Tragedy is quite a busy person, but there seems to be a suggestion that preventing them from even signing up for a few days will cause them to turn their attention elsewhere. In lieu of, though, more active moderation would definitely be a significant help.

Reviving the DD power would certainly help, but aren't all moderators able to delete stuff in their sections anyway? Since I usually go through Recent Posts, I'm not actually sure which sections the spam is in, but in any case it ought to be possible to contain the problem quite easily.

Yes, that's why I think someone with global deletion powers would be ideal.

Yeah, I'm online all the time, but as far as I'm aware, my section is untouched, so I can do nothing.

Yes, as far as board moderators are concerned, while we can do something about our own boards, we can't do a thing about those boards whose moderators aren't present at present.

So either get some DDs back, or increase power to the current mods.
If that happened we'd still care about our own sections but if we see something elsewhere that is of concern it will still be dealt with.

The only staff members at present with power over multiple boards are Tragedy and Cybermystery, neither of whom log in regularly. So I think a new system is required to account for situations where the moderators of individual boards undergo periods of absence which coincide with heightened levels of spam. Appointing Detriment Deleters or expanding the power set of regular staff (with BSam's caveat that this power is to be reserved to their own board except in the case of obvious spam) would I think represent the most efficient and egalitarian solution.

I must say I prefer the latter.

I would prefer the former.

I would not be opposed to appointing Deleters. Having a larger staff means covering more times of day (and night), so the combination of moderators keeping up with their own sections and Deleters online when certain moderators are not means more ground covered overall.

Well has Tragedy said anything about it yet?
The allegedly illegal content of these threads is really disturbing, it'd be best if something could be done ASAP because this is getting out of hand.
Did you only try to contact Tragedy through Proboards? Is there any way someone could talk to him on facebook or something? I think it'd be more likely for him to see the messages there.

I would prefer the former. Screw it, let's do both.
