Hello friends and foes (hopefully mostly the former)!
I'm working on a short for my third year film at CalArts. It's a musical about warring turn-of-the-century travelling menageries, basically. I'm just audience testing my first pass at the storyboards right now- so any feedback would be super helpful as I go to work on this more! I don't have my usual workshop class this year so I'm getting feedback wherever I can manage, lol.
Here's the link! Sorry for the watermark, just playing things safe. Also, all the voices are temporary and just me and my composer wheezing at our computers and making bad donkey noises. We're supposed to have a 4minute time limit, but... it's a few seconds over. I'll have to cut it a bit, but I don't mind going overtime and submitting the long version to festivals and the 10-seconds-trimmed version to school, haha.
Let me know what you guys think!
(If you're interested in seeing more of my animation, check my Vimeo out)
My internet is horrendous right now, but of what I managed to watch, I really liked the voices, music and of course the style. Do you draw any other styles? What do you want to do when you graduate?

Wow, I've heard getting into CalArts is pretty hard (not just because of the costs). I very much liked your animatic, zakeno, it reminded me of Pixar's short films a lot (esp. 'One Man Band'). The score was also really fantastic in its timing. Maybe the only thing that seemed kind of left unexplained is why the lady and then all the others decided to give their money to the little protagonist, considering the other menageries seemed much more attractive. But I guess this could be different with the lady's facial reaction actually animated, so we can see that she just wants to help out the kid, and the others are just influenced by her decision.

We watched a lot of One Man Band while trying to figure out how to cram like 6 short songs into one film, haha!
Thanks for the suggestion though! The intention was less noble on the audiences part, where mostly they leave the other circuses because there are quite frankly no animals left so they pay the one with animals. I'll try to make this clearer in my next pass, maybe it could be staged better. The lady does want to help out the kid since she's the most personable of the other characters, but her attention solely goes back to them because of the distinct lack of animals or attractions once they all flee (workers rights, man) for Melvin's menagerie.
I'll work on clarifying that! Thanks so much for the feedback, super helpful!
And @trouble - thanks so much! I'm studying animation at CALARTS right now and have done a little work in the animation industry doing storyboards, character designs, and props. So I can draw in just about any style, though my personal drawings are generally more toony. I've done much more realistic work in the past, a-la-DnD for freelance games and such. I'm hoping to continue to be paid for drawing cartoons for the foreseeable future, haha- I tend to like working in television more since it's faster paced, but I'd be happy doing just about anything for any studio! Really. Put me on Dora the Explorer and I can guarantee I'll be Dora's #1 fan in two minutes flat
