Oh yes, Mrs. Poe sitting with her husband- I'd forgotten about that bit. In that case, I'd agree that Polly has probably been renamed. With this in mind, it remains likely that it is to help make the plot concise. I think it helps to have them combined, rather than to have Polly in this scene and never again, when they could use that opportunity to introduce Eleanora, presuming her link with the newspaper will be relevant later on.
In regards to the newspaper headline being news to Eleanora, it's possible that this is the case, but it may also be that she is still the editor and this is why she is the one to reveal the paper. I'd like to think that the latter is the case because then it'd feel a bit of a pointless deviation from the story to have changed her name.

I did think today how very fortunate I have been I'm grateful. Edit/observation: I am interested in the mention of The Smiths in my piece of the screenplay. I think it may provide a small indication of the aesthetic for the series. The movie seemed to spread from any time between the 1800s to the 1970s, but was arguably anchored in around 1900. I can't imagine anybody in the movie wearing a t-shirt without standing out. But the mention of The Smiths makes me wonder if some of the more modern allusions in the book series will contribute to the aesthetic (going with t-shirts, people in The Carnivorous Carnival wore them). Perhaps the style will be more varied and even more non-specific.

More characterisation for Edgar and Albert too, huh? And yet they got their names right. Hmm. Incidentally, I presume the vocabulary question to be contextual in this instance, as both Klaus and Edgar are right, but Klaus's interjection is presented as a correction; I'm guessing they're at the dinner table. It's kind of an odd exchange; normally you would expect Klaus to have the more complex definition. It didn't read as a correction to me--I kinda thought it sounded like they said it at the same time, as the direction says, "Klaus answers automatically." Which then plays into the mom saying, "No one asked the Baudelaires." But I could be wrong!

That had occurred to me as well, and I think it might well be intended and presented that way, but at the same time, both lines need to be audible - and either way, it looks like Klaus is going to be correct, so it works as a correction. Actually, no, on second examination, I think it is intended as a correction - because "boiled" is presented in italics, for emphasis. If that was a stylistic feature of definitions in general, I think Edgar's definition would be italicised as well. ...I'm aware that this is nitpicking, it really doesn't matter to me which it is, I just think the situation is curious and it's not like we have much else to talk about.

What did each of you put as your sad song? I chose Anyone Who Knows What Love Is (Will Understand) by Irma Thomas.
I do think trees are overrated
And it's nice to see Handler is a New Order fan.

What did each of you put as your sad song? I chose Anyone Who Knows What Love Is (Will Understand) by Irma Thomas. I went with My Oldest Friend by Have Mercy. It's quite obscure and I doubt Handler would like it given his love of classical over pop, but I think it's wonderful and there's no denying that it's very sad. Your song is a classic; it always reminds me of a Black Mirror episode it was used in.

I put It's Quiet Uptown from Hamilton because I am a nerd.
What did people put for the story to tell at a party?
