Uh oh. Somehow, out of morbid curiosity for two excellent actors being in an apparently total crap movie, I saw this trailer. It looks worse than CGI-Garfield 5, but even worse: It's directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and features that Weissman girl (Violet). I really, really hope this is not a harbinger of the quality of Sonnenfeld's work these days.

...I guess one way of looking at it is this: Somehow, this concept managed to get actual big names working on it. There must have been a lot of money involved, for whatever reason. But there's only so much any director and actor can do with a concept like this. ...Nonetheless, this does revive my anxiety that everyone involved with ASoUE, Handler included, will forget that the series is menacing as well as funny. They'll look at the jokes and forget how you receive this as a child with an emotional investment in the characters. That's my greatest fear for the project.

I wouldn't read too much into it. Ultimately for the cast and crew of this odd looking movie I can't really judge them for taking part in this for the simple reason that they all have to make a living and not everything they do is going to be gold nor was intended to be. They're not stupid, they know what type of movie they're making, but they also know that cat videos are very popular right now and doing a comedy that's pretty much a 90 minute cat video might just work out for them. Whether the movie is good or bad it's still a paycheck for these people.

Quite a few notable names attached to this. I'm guessing the studio splurged a bit more on the cast and crew in an attempt to distract people from the sheer unoriginality of this movie.

or it could have all been a horrible accident, which i'm more inclined to believe. the only reason Bill Murray was in that bottom-of-the-barrel Garfield movie was because he heard it was written by "Joel Cohen" and thought he was signing up for a Coen brothers movie.

Murray reveals that he picked up Garfield's script and noted that it was written by one Joel Cohen. Mistakenly believing this to be the celebrated co-architect of dark comedies The Big Lebowski and O Brother, Where Art Thou? (rather than the creator of such gems as Evan Almighty and Daddy Day Camp, whose name has an additional "h"), Murray happily signed up. Exactly. Nine Lives is nothing to get worried about. It doesn't erase the fact that Sonnenfeld's directed the Addams Family movies. I doubt he'll totally miss the mark for ASOUE.

I really like Klaus. The moment I saw his picture, I thought "Oh yes, this is a good choice !"
Violet is fine too, like many said, she looks like a replica of the movie-one. Which is fine.
The fact that they're both younger is a good thing, too !
I wonder who Sunny will be. The girl(s) who played her in the movie was/were adorable.
