Hello, Hello, and welcome to another 667er.
It doesn't feel like its been another month already. The Darkies have come and gone, and plenty of awards were given. Including to me! All I can say is thanks, a lot of hard work goes into the 667er, but it isn't all down to me. A lot of poeple have conrbuted two articles to this issue for example, so kudos to them. I just read through everything and sit here eating chocolate hob nobs.
But also we've had so much news about the netflix adpation in the last month alone. Reading the Netflix News i couldn't believe that a month ago we did'nt even have out first set pictures, and now it seems like we have hundreds.
But anyway, on with the issue!
So, there is no edition of the month this month. Instead, Lemona has written up a lil thing about...... THE DARKIES
Ah, the Darkies. I could begin by saying some sentimental and wise stuff about the long tradition of these awards, and how important they are to 667 as a community, or I could not. Anyway, welcome to my recap.
Hermes and M started out the planning this year by proving themselves worthy candidates for Most Prolonged Discussion About An Award Title – if such a category were to exist. Eventually, Best Writing was settled on; an award for creative writing that isn’t part of the 667er.
On the same topic, we had a #darkiesscandal when Bee nominated Pandora’s gripping tale of M and Anka, later revealed to be a retelling of what I’m reliably informed was a teletubbies story. As Anka eloquently put it: “PLAGIARISM SCANDAL OR SOMETHING”. When asked to comment, Pepper remarked “Nicole's story scandal was short lived. Someone should have fought back. FIGHT THE POWE. ER. *R”.
Apart from that, the special thirteenth category for 2016 was Best OOC Quote, suggested by Hermes, and there were some changes made to the rules for Best New Member.
Now let’s move on to the award ceremony, held over the weekend of May 14th and 15th. The 667er was the only publication to have a reporter at the event.
It was, in Mister M’s words “time for the most racist awards ceremony since the oscars”.
M also began, before the first speech, to undertake what he described as presenting an award “slowly over the course of this whole weekend. I'm also not going to reveal what the award isj ust yet. #fun”. Ok then.
First up I delivered a brilliant speech to present Best Writing, which was won with a tie by Linda’s mammoth 667 Wicked adaptation and Lorlai’s Snicket fic Thursday Tea.
Dante’s presentation of Best Thread was one of the highlights of the ceremony in my opinion; I got a kick out of seeing the non-MMisc-toucher comment on some of its content. ryantrimble457’s meticulously put together Netflix news thread won.
Next, Comet invited his audience to consider what the Most Compassionate award really means, and announced it had been won by another newcomer, Lorelai.
Sophie stepped up and made a misleading and amusing speech to present Funniest Member to me. Booyah. In Linda’s words, “the L’s are killing it”.
Most Notorious was presented by Pepper, who made a moving mention of Club Penguin moderators in his speech before presenting the award to matthewmemories and bear. No surprises there. (That rhymed.)
Then Zortegus announced the Usman-Ally-recognised Liam/Pevalwen as Best Artist, though his (Zort’s) confusion about private nominations led to much unfair speculation about whether or not I had nominated myself. Humph. The lovely Anka cleared the matter up shortly afterward. So there guys.
She herself made a rather touching speech about the difficulties of being an organiser, and presented the award in question to Mister M for his work on the 667er. I think this was an especially well-deserved one.
Hermes gave an inventive speech, one crafted mostly of quotes, to announce the winner of 2016’s special category Best Out Of Context Quote: this joint effort from me and Comet.
Next, Loralai presented Best Pairing, the award for pairs of people with enough of a connection that “when new members see the names up for the award, they don't feel their eyebrows are in danger of disappearing into their hair by the severity of their bafflement” as she put it. Sophie/Pen and bear/Peppermince tied, which lead to some controversy - over not the award itself, but whether sophrindle, pophie or something else should be the official ship name. Sophie claims it’s sophredy.
Linda took the microphone to present “Best Volunteer, or as I like to call it, the Dante award” to Netlfix info devotee ryantrimble457, after a speech full of compliments to the nominees aww.
Keep in mind that during this entire time Mister M kept popping up periodically to say things like “so-and-so, you didn't win my award” as an advancement of his presentation. It was about as exciting as it sounds.
Then Terry presented MVP, giving us a little educational speech about some of the other meanings for the initials, but he neglected to mention Montel Vontavious Porter. Anyway, Anka and Bee tied. “My girlfriend and my ex, or something,” said Mister M - a notion that was quickly and sensibly rebuffed by Bee.
Matthewmemories had been going to present Best New Member, but by disappearing until September (probably to go creep out bartenders with an apprentice by his side) he put Anka in a difficult situation. She put out a first come first served call for a presenter and I volunteered. Then, the upset of the century happened. It was announced that Lorelai and Zortegus had tied, beating out the favourite Peppermince by one vote. Gasps of astonishment echoed around the room, and they were soon drowned out by bear loudly deprecating the voters. I imagine he’d get on well with afl umpires.
The surprises weren’t over though; when the ceremony finished, Zortegus stepped forward to “say a few more words”. He proceeded to make a moving speech, giving Pepper a special mention and presenting him with a BNM banner of his own. Everyone wiped away a tear. When reached for comment, Pepper said “Zort is a cool dude”.
But before that, Mister M put everyone out of their misery by finishing up his suspenseful presentation, revealing that Terry – at the time sporting his loaf get-up – had won Best Profile Decoration.
The 2016 Darkies ceremony had drawn to a close, or in Pandora’s words “wow this happened”. There was a little flurry of banner critique. Thanks to the people who said nice things about the Best Organiser banner I made. During the writing of this recap, Sam requested I “mention the awesome banner I made for Terry” so here: Sam made an awesome banner for Terry. Honestly, anything’s better than that Sophie/Charles… um… thing of last year. I’m also now giving a shoutout to the use of the Egmont font on the Best Pairing banner, Bee and Anka’s companion Ellingtons, and my Larry the Waiter in glorious technicolour by Zort.
an article by zortegus may appear some time, though perhaps not quick enough for bandit and zort
Being old sucks. You get uglier, slower and deteriorated in general. I don't know how it is in the places where you live, but here two places where old people is particularly horrible: buses and ATMs' lines.
People can take up to 10 minutes in the ATM. I'M 100% SERIOUS. What do they do?! Sometimes there are lines of one block to get some money and people is so slow you wanna die, or kill them. I have this theory that if you put the right combination of numbers a door to the Ministery of Magic appears.
Old people use the ATMs here to pay their taxes, credit cars and other services. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?! Instead of taking money and going to another place where it'll take less than a minute to get it done, they prefer to make a line in the bank from 7 am to be half an hour in front of the machine.
The worst thing is not the slow people, though. The grandpas who are in the line are. They tend to be the worst kind of fascist assholes you'll ever see. They try to make new friends insulting poor people, talking salsa about the government and being bitter old people in general.
When it comes to buses though, old women get the cake. They usually complain a lot during the whole trip, they demand young people let them sit, if there are two free seats they'll choose the corridor one, like daring you to tell them you want to sit by their side. They use the front door to get down even when they know they have to use the one in the back. If they are bored they'll start fighting with other old ladies just for fun.

And that's my rant. Hope you liked it.
Guest written by trip , as Comet was indisposed.
It’s been a very busy month for those keeping tabs on the impending Netflix adaptation, from a foreboding query a mere eight minutes after the most recent publication of The 667er, to the spotting of a mysterious reptile on the Instagram of crew member Sarah Lemmon as this very article is being written.
On April 25th, we got our first hint of what the show’s wardrobe would consist of, when Shanda Leer took to Twitter with this question:
Just two hours later, we received word that a horde of heinous henchpeople was spotted terrorizing the streets of Vancouver— luckily, there are always a few volunteers around to keep an eye out, and several Vancouverites bravely risked life and limb (life and limb) to put proof or their villainous skulking out into the world. Not long after that, we got our first hair-raising looks at the villainous troupe’s despicable and poorly-washed leader.
The phrase “when it rains, it pours” generally means that when one bad thing happens, many more are sure to follow— but it seems that this phrase holds true in times of drought, as well. Over the not-quite-month, diligent volunteers filled 25 pages of ryantrimble457 ’s award-winning Mega Post thread, which, in the next five days alone included:
- a link to several more higher-quality pictures of Count Olaf, as well as his henchpeople confirming the heavily speculated-about Usman Ally as the hook-handed man
- several more images of the infamous count
- an array of set photos from a volunteer on Tumblr with many interesting details, including several prop newspapers, with mentions of the Baudelaire fire, a familiar carnival, and a mysterious gang of bank-robbing clowns (transcribed here)
- more photos from that same volunteer of misc. troupe members, including a man alleged to be the tall, bald man, as he is both tall and bald
- images of the inside of the Cultch Theatre, where filming would take place for several days in early May
- and various other miscellaneous set pictures.
From there, news was scattered for a while— mostly just a notice of exterior shooting here and there, though on May 3rd, Neil Patrick Harris posted this image:
which we can only pray is of a prop infant, and not the real Sunny Baudelaire trapped by wheelbarrow and plastic garbage bag.
Travis Turner posted a photo of a water bottle on May 7th, that he was given for his work in the show, with a clearer view of the thoroughly investigated eye design, assumed to be the show’s logo. While it was clearer than anything we had seen before, we got an even better view when Liam R. Findlay received a letter from director Barry Sonnenfeld, soothing common fears about the adaptation.
Mr. Turner was later confirmed to be a stand-in for the series, by fellow stand-in, Ashley Macdonald, who spoke to Esmé's meme is meh on Facebook, and had nothing but good things to say about working on the show. She said that it is “the greatest project [she’s] ever worked on” and she seems to be very impressed with everything from the acting and directing to the details included in the adaptation. She also said "It's the most perfect project I've ever been apart of. The cast and crew are my family now, and Barry Sonnenfeld is the best director I've ever worked with. And you can quote me on that!" (And who are we at The 667er to deny someone in need of quoting?) Ms. Macdonald also informed Zortegus that she would share everything with us that she is allowed to, and that some of the team would be happy to tell us set stories after the show has aired.
IMDb has provided us with several interesting (if not officially confirmed, due to it being a user-editable site) tidbits as well, namely Luke Camilleri as Gustav, four episodes listed as Episode #1.1, The Bad Beginning: Part Two, The Reptile Room: Part One, and The Reptile Room: Part Two, and a possible premiere date of January 10th, 2017. Other non-IMDb tidbits include a peak behind the VFX curtain, and Count Olaf out on the town in another very intriguing outfit.
On May 4th, ryantrimble457 posted that they would be filming at the Hollywood Theatre, after which there were a few posts about filming preparations for the building— preparations that, unbeknownst to us, heralded our first sighting of an esteemed herpetologist, a villain flimsily disguised, and three very woeful orphans.
There were several photos and a video posted in an unofficial lead-up to the event, but on May 10th, we finally got pictures of our main cast, including the Baudelaires with with Dr. Montgomery and Olaf as Stephano, Stephanolaf by himself, and the elusive Mr. Snicket.
In the following days we sunk our greedy little claws into a plethora of group shots, the reptile linked at the top of this article, and a slightly clearer image of one of the water bottles, but we watch hungrily for more, and the beast that is 667 Dark Avenue-dwellers waiting for Netflix adaptation information may never be appeased.
On April 28th, our Brasilian associates at Desventuras em Série Brasil on Facebook posted an image suggesting that the series will premiere in 2017, confirmed to them on a phone call a week later, along with it being an eight-episode first season.
Those interested in a more detailed look into the month, or discussion regarding the news, can find both in the ASoUE Netflix Series: Mega Post.

The 667er: Welcome to The 667er interview Anka!
Anka: Yay
The 667er: First off, good job on another successful Darkies! You have been running them since 2013; how did you first get involved in the Darkies?
Anka: Thanks. Yes, I have actually never had any Darkies which I wasn't organising, that's maybe a bit weird. I had looked at the old Darkies threads before though, because I'm the weird kind of person who does that, so I knew what everything was. I don't know how anyone had the idea of asking me to organise that though, Tragedy just asked me at some point and I was really surprised
The 667er: Do you ever plan on passing the responsibility to someone else?
Anka: I don't know if I want to stop doing that at some point. I really like it, but maybe I will not have enough time in a few years.
The 667er: You live in Germany, but have plans to move to England. The main reason, of course, would be to be close to Mister M, but are there any other reasons for wanting to move? If you had never met him do you think you would still be moving?
Anka: I don't think I would move to England if there wasn't him. But I have always liked the thought of moving to another country, at least for a while. If I hadn't met Mister M I would probably have spent some of my university time abroad, probably in Sweden or Ireland.
The 667er: Where did you get the username Anka?
Anka: It's the Swedish word for duck. I had a friend at school who decided to call me Entchen, which is German for little duck, because I reminded her of a little duck. Some other people found that weird, but I thought a duck isn't a bad thing. And then when I was looking for a username for some internet stuff I thought Anka is good, because it's like an actual nickname I have, it's in Swedish, which I like, and it also sounds nice as a name.
The 667er: What is your favorite color? Why?
Anka: I generally like most colours, but my favourite is probably blue. I don't really know why, I just like it.
The 667er: In addition to running the Darkies, you also started the 667 Advent Calendar. How has that been? If you had to pick a favorite organizing project, would you pick Advent, Darkies, or something else entirely?
Anka: Wow that's a difficult question. The advent calendar was my own idea, so I feel like I should like that more, but the Darkies are a cooler kind of work, like making the polls and putting the nominations together. The advent calendar is just finding people who can do stuff, and then it just sort of happens.
The 667er: What is your favorite television show? Why?
Anka: I don't really watch that many shows, actually I only really watch the shows that Mister M shows me. I think the two main things we have watched or are still watching together are Doctor Who and Lost, which are both shows I really like.
The 667er: You and Mister M have documented your cooking projects several times in The 667er. Do you plan on doing anything cooking-related that earns you money, or is it just a fun hobby for you?
Anka: I don't think I'm good enough at that for earning money, so it's probably just a fun hobby.
The 667er: Now, let's talk about family. I vaguely remember that you have siblings, but not how many. Also, do you live with both your parents?
Anka: I have a brother who is two years younger than me, and a sister who is 5 years younger than me, and I live with both my parents.
The 667er: Any extended family?
Anka: I also still have all 4 grandparents, they live not far away from me, and they are all still healthy and don't have dementia or something, I think I'm really lucky there. I have 3 cousins, a boy and a girl who are siblings (my mum's brother's children), and another boy (my dad's sister's son). They are between 14 and 16 now, younger than both my siblings. When I was younger, I always wished I had counsins closer to my age.
The 667er: I remember you have a dog and a cat, any other pets?
Anka: There is just the dog and the cat now, but when I was a child we used to have rabbits. I think that was all before we had the dog, but we had the rabbits and the cat at some point.
The 667er: Now you are studying linguistics at university. How is that going?
Anka: University is going okay, most courses are fun and my marks are okay too. This semester I have to write my BA thesis though, which I'm a bit nervous about. I don't really like the idea of writing such a big thing.
The 667er: Do you have any plans post-graduation where a linguistics degree will come in handy, other than the obvious of living in a country that speaks English?
Anka: I don't actually have any career plans for after this semester, I will just do whatever anyone lets me do and what I can do whille living where I want to live doing whatever other things there are in my life. I hope my university degree will help me getting something there, but I don't really care what.
The 667er: Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10? 20?
Anka: I don't really know, I guess in 5 years I will still be sorting out my life so I can have a place to live and everthing. I would like to start having children before I'm 30, which is in 8 years, so in 10 years I would be busy with family stuff maybe. In 20 years I will probably just feel old.
The 667er: What has been your favorite thing that has happened on 667 in the last year? Why?
Anka: Hmm, I don't really know. I quite like the penthouse days, if there is anything happening there at a time where I'm not sleeping, but I can't think of anything in particular.
The 667er: Is there anything you have learned, either about yourself or about the wider world around you, that you might not have learned if you had not joined 667?
Anka: Probably yes, but a subconscious kind of learning. I have no idea what my life would be like if I had not joined 667. I had a really difficult time when I joined 667, and a lot of decisions to make, and I think I would have made different ones without 667, but I don't know how.
The 667er: And finally, is there anything we haven't covered yet that you're dying to tell the people of 667?
Anka: Nothing that I can think of right now. Just that this is an awesome place with awesome people, and I'm really happy that I found it.
(Except not Pandora but Lemona instead)
Power Rankings
Ranking is too stressful, so I'm using alphabetical order; you may all imagine you would have been number one if it pleases you to do so, but nearly all of you will be wrong.
Kit's tits kick ticks makes the list because she has good taste in musical theatre and similarly good fic ideas. Also she organised a little thing called The Darkies, is a duck, and has great hair. The last two things can co-exist, trust me.
Reba also known as tcwdelsm. He and I kind of agreed on something recently so he makes the list.
BSam for saying I'm a worthy Funniest Member and for potatoing finally listening to some FBH last week. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to hug Mr Handler last year.
Charlie, who's off being diligent again, this time as a Melbournian. He makes the list for getting into uni, recommending I ask for double pickles at Subway, and once using Sharpie ink as lipstick.
Emma “Emmz” Squalor because I miss her. (Hey this is my one-off chance to do power rankings, so I can include past 667ers if I wish.) Apart from being missed, she's in power for having great taste in gifts. She was the lovely first 667er I talked to regularly, she's an impressively prolific writer, and she likes Melora Creager. Also DH made a slightly suggestive remark about her teeth one time.
A comet crashing into Earth for his amusing new profile decoration and for being intentionally unintentionally lascivious when talking about book collections, allowing us to win best OOC quote. Also his Thin Lizzy thing in the counting game made me chuckle.
Isadora Is a Door This is actually me taking the opportunity to remind him he owes me a quiz next penthouse day. He's not getting out of this. Also I guess he's pretty great at magazine-organising and winning awards for it and stuff.
My alleged son @peppermince makes the list because he's an admirable entrepreneur what with his inventively titled newspaper, has an iron stomach, and got me to watch a potatoing glorious piece of Disney history I hadn't gotten around to.
Author's note: this felt sappy.
Author's note #2: I did ask M if I had to make it a list of ten but he didn't answer so tough.
#5 - Pretend you married Tragedy
How much money did sophie make from this?
asoue.proboards.com/thread/28787/pretend-married-tragedy
Bonus Zortegus article with no banner
If "A Series of Unfortunate Events" happened in 2016, the story would be completely different, like:
1) Bertrand and Beatrice would have survived because their house would have had a fire alarm; if they die anyway, Mr. Poe would have texted the kids something like "un4-2n8 news: ur parnts died 2day, sorry kiddos *emoji crying, emoji of a broken heart, emoji of a fire*
2) Instead of taking the kids to the theatre, Uncle Monty and the kids would have stayed home. Netflix and chill yo.
3) Aunt Josephine would have stayed at home being a grammar nazi on the Internet. She'd also have worked on WordReference correcting everyone.
4) The kids would have exposed Sir on Facebook, making people around the world get mad at him for being a horrilble capitalist pig.
5) Carmelita would have been anonymously reported for bullying on Tumblr, just like Genghis and Nero for abuse.
6) The Auction would have been done entirely on eBay.
7) The Quagmires would have told the kids where they were trapped using the GPS of their phones/tablets.
8) WebMD would have been used to prove that Violet was perfectly fine and Olaf and his henchmen would have faced trial for bad practice
9) The Calligari Carnival wouldn't have existed because of PETA complains.
10) The Baudelaires would have used an app or a drone to know if the last safe place was still safe.
11) Instead of telegrams, everyone would have used Twitter to communicate.
12) The sugar bowl would have been hidden in a safe under a fingerprint lock.
13) Everyone would have killed themselves/each other for the lack of WiFi on the island.
E:
Emma Squalor: Emma joined in 2007 and was one of 667's most popular and important members. From 2010-2012 she was the organiser of the Darkies, and in all of those years and in 2009 she also won the Most Compassionate award. We should really call that the Emma award.
Looking at the threads from the time she was here in the fan fiction section, where she is actually still the moderator, you will find nice and thoughtful comments from her oh other people's writing, as well as stories written by her, which mostly focus on her favourite characters Jerome and Esme Squalor. I can't actually say that much about her, because just before I joined she left the forum because of health reasons. She came back for a short time about a year later, but most people haven't heard anything from her since that. I haven't even been around much at the same time as her, but even to me it seems weird that there are new people who maybe don't even know who she is. Anyway, let's hope she's okay
It's nearly (northern hemisphere) summer time, and that means one thing: Big Brother is back! Next week, June 3rd to be precise, a new house (aka forum) will open up, with all the alliances, betrayals, twists, and other shenanigans that come with it, while the housemates are eliminated one by one until a winner is declared on August 5th. You, the spectators, will be able to decide who gets to stay and who must go every week.
This year we are pleased to announce that the competition has been opened up to the other Snicket-related groups on the internet, namely Desventuras em Serie Brazil and La Pente Glissante, and while they are both smaller groups than us here at 667 and have not sent as many members, they will be participating on the viewer board, giving feedback and voting each week. As such, the vast majority of Big Brother-related news and discussion will be self-contained within the board to allow them to participate without joining 667.
Zortegus and I round out the Big Brother team this year, and we promise to astound and amaze with perennial favorites, new twists and Snicket-themed tasks, and maybe even the return of some old members? Want to know more? Well you'll just have to wait and see. June 3rd. Mark your calendars. It's gonna be a blast.
(PS, Zortegus made this pretty banner. He is awesome and way more talented at graphics than I)
