Yes, this seems to be a little of an overreaction, but Bear is even more overreacting. Not cool.
I personally don't see the connection of the black fuzz with a racist black depiction. Dante is also right about the illustrator not being talked about.

the same "cancelmania" that was applied to daniel handler here, we have since seen applied to jk rowling, this obsessive combing of an artist's work for subtle racism etc. i do not believe any millennial or zoomer who is making these claims online is actually concerned with injustice. they are "Social MEDIA Justice Warriors" literally generating outrage as a hobby. i remember when this attitude originally emerged on tumblr with blogs like "Your Fave Is Problematic", where cancellation became a new twist on hipster smugness directed specifically at popular media. people enjoyed condemning as much as possible, and in turn, former fans enjoyed turning their backs on things they once "naively" enjoyed. every generation must find a way to rebel against nostalgia and relinquish their attachment to childhood entertainment, and this is the new way.
