I just realized Stephano doesn't have his round glasses on. Hmm. That's probably because he doesn't have them in the book.

The box set art has also appeared, albeit only in low quality so far. Lacking fresh art on one face, it likely also lacks fresh art on the other, but the patterning on the top is rather attractive. This image also demonstrates that the Netflix editions appear to be retaining the spine colours of the original HarperCollins editions.

I'm glad they've put so much effort into these. Rather than lazily throwing the poster or random stills onto the cover they actually went out of their way to photoshop together new layouts and designs. It's a surprising amount of effort to see from a tie-in product (I'm looking at you crappy movie tie-in books, have you no shame!?!). I love that they included the original spine colors too, a nice mix of old and new.
I hope the back covers feature the guardians. I do wonder what we'll see on the inside in terms of illustrations. In a perfect world I'd like to see new illustrations featuring the designs and likenesses from the show, but I suspect that they'll either use the original illustrations or stills from the show. I'd be okay with either, I feel spoiled with how well the outside has turned out, so they could easily sell me on anything inside.

If I'm honest, I'd be astonished if they had new illustrations based on the adaptation; I'm not sure if there's any precedent for that in other adaptation-based reissues. If they didn't do it for the cover, they won't do it for the interior. It's not like they're rewriting the text to fit the adaptation, after all.

A recent reissue of Coraline featured a new set of illustrations, many of which bore a striking resemblance to the movie version. So, it's within the realm of possibility, though unlikely.
If they do decide to go with the Helquist illustrations it makes me wonder which set they'll use, since technically there are two sets of illustrations for 1-4 (though 4 was unreleased).

Wasn't that the graphic novel version of Coraline? Or was it a normal version with new illustrations?

That's fair enough, I suppose, but Helquist has already illustrated these books twice (and I think it's quite likely he got farther than TMM on the cancelled penny dreadful paperbacks); would he really be up for doing so a third time? If not, could they get away with using someone else's art when Helquist's work is so entwined with the series that it's being used by the production crew as reference material? And thirteen books is a lot more to illustrate than just one... The more I think about it, the more I think that the most likely option is that the Netflix editions will just use the original illustrations; stills from the movie might be compromised by the scenes often being subtly to radically different.

I love that they kept some of the elements of the original book designs, but I really dislike Olaf being featured on the side. Enough of the Netflix crowd would've bought it regardless of whether or not NPH was on the side.

I'm gonna be honest--I think these covers are kinda tacky. The photoshop doesn't look great. I'd almost prefer if they straight took a frame from the show and made it the cover, rather than this weird mishmash. Or, even better, specially pose the kids on the set in a photoshoot for them. Oh well. I'll still 1000% buy them. I love new covers for things.

Only a few days to wait, then! I don't know that I'll get them myself, but I'd be very interested to see photographs of the other sides.

I'd almost prefer if they straight took a frame from the show and made it the cover, rather than this weird mishmash. Or, even better, specially pose the kids on the set in a photoshoot for them. It would be difficult to take a screen shot from the show and make it a cover, if only because the show is widescreen and book covers are really narrow. The film tie in books did this and are bland and ummemorable. Film is a visual medium, it's often shot to utilize the space as effectively as possible, so to take a still and use it as a book cover is going to require some cutting, and that's no guarantee that the framing will look all that good in the end. Also, the TBB cover is from a photoshoot, the one we kept seeing snippets released from on snap chat last summer, I believe. TWW cover looks like a posed photoshoot on set. Examining the covers closely they seem to utilize images from photoshoots, concept art and even actual images from the show. I think it's a good trade off the way they did it. I think they look better than many of the cheap tie in we see.

Saw them today. They look SO MUCH BETTER in person. And they're casewrapped like the originals. I thought they'd be distjackets, like the movie tie ins!

Amazon is claiming that Egmont will be bringing these editions to the U.K., but not until January. In the meantime, could anyone who sees them take a glance at the back, flip through the inside and so on, to give us an idea of what the full package is like?
