What did you want to do with your life when you were younger? Are you actually doing any of that now, or are you doing something completely different? Not only job related, but also other things.
When I was a child I wanted to become a teacher, and I almost started studying for that, but then I decided to not do that because teaching is a thing where you can't easily move to another country and just get a job, because it works differently everywhere. I think it's probably good that I'm not a teacher because I would be terrible at making people learn things that they don't want to learn.
I also always said I would write a book at some point, but at some point I realised I suck at writing and I also wouldn't be able to put enough time and effort in one thing.
Also when I was a teenager I always thought I would become a crazy woman who has no man and lives with cats, but Mister M ruined that.

so now i like shorter things, still wanna write tho but probably for magazines or TV
and at some various points i wanted to be other things like a doctor, fire fighter, actor, lawyer, until i realized writing is the only thing im good at that i actually like

I wanted to be an actor, but then realized that I would end up not seeing any of my movies because I don't like looking at myself. I also don't want to be famous.

When I was in grade 3 I wanted to be a teacher bc I loved my teacher so much. Later on I realized that I had way too much anxiety to stand in front of people all day everyday.
Ended up going to school for early childhood ed, which is still teaching but mostly for young kids, so it worked out

yep I also wanted to become an author when I was a kid, up until 6th grade or so. Before I started school I taught myself to read and write (with mistakes; gimme a break), but later on in life I didn't make a habit of reading and writing enough on a regular basis to develop the skills and focus. I still keep a journal with lots+lots of half-finished poems, one-liners and short story ideas, though, telling myself I could eventually someday make something out of them.
I guess I now write for my studies but I don't plan on staying in academia.
When I was a teen I wanted to become a film director and I still want to work in film as a creative, so let's see when that dream dies /cynicism

i don't think you have to read so much as a journalist, you just have to be up-to-date with things in your field (so it depends on what kind of journalist, I guess... as a music journalist you'd have to listen to lots of music instead of reading). you would have to write a lot though.

Like everyone else here...I wanted to be an author. But I suck at writing and have a really short attention span.

I think Van Gogh didn't really start painting until the latter half of his twenties. I read in an interview not so long ago that Neil Gaiman only started finishing things when he was 22, which is my current age. On the other hand, Frankenstein was written by a teenager, and Adele's habit of naming her albums after her age is also starting to stress me out a little bit. My point being, I also wanted to be an author.
