I'm looking at the Recently Updated Threads page as I type this. Of the 20 threads currently on display, exactly six of them have to do with, in one way or another, ASoUE. The majority of the threads revolve around something unrelated.
I understand that Tragedy - assuming he was the one who made this decision - chose to include censors, such as, say, "magikarp", or "salsa", due to the ostensibly family-oriented subject of 667, but I have to admit I find this sentiment no longer very relevant. This forum's regulars are a particularly tight-knit community; all of whom are of teen age or older. I can't remember the last time a new user made an introductory thread. In fact, I can't recall the last time we had a user who was blatantly of an age where it is inappropriate for them to read and say curse words- assuming we've ever even had any at all.
Additionally, the choice of words to receive censorship frankly seems to haven't been properly thought through- ickle and salsa are replaced with other words, which, okay, fine, fair enough (actually, NOT fair, but we'll get to that), but then there are words like p#nis and 0rgy, neither of which are curse words. If we're going to replace words too scandalous for prudish ol' Tragedy, then why not go the whole nine and add, say, cunnilingus, fellatio, and anal to the list as well?
Furthermore:
One of the aforementioned 20 threads on display is the "out of context quote thread", which is heavily laced with jokes and sexual innuendos involving, but not limited to, m#sturbation (fittingly enough, the actual term is censored), size of users' manhoods, the usage of condoms, oral sex, and rape, both regular (if you could call it that) and statutory.
I have distinct memories of two separate occasions in which threads about "baseball" were published, with posts about "getting to third base" and such.
A thread about Internet piracy once quickly spiraled into a casual conversation about self-stimulation- which, IIRC, was kicked off with me asking someone what the censor "frolicking in the fields" was referring to after a comparison between the subject of the censor and the original topic of the thread.
In the book series this forum is supposedly about- AKA the main goddamned reason why there are these censors are here in the first place! - disturbing, unsubtle insinuations are made regarding the uneasy relationship between its heroine and the main villain. (And not to mention their shippers, none of whom have posted anything of late, but still... yikes.)
The author of said book series has also penned several novels explicitly about incest and sexual relationships. These novels, and their subject matter, have been the subject of discussions between the site's users.
This isn't even getting into what must be surely countless more discussions concerning matters far racier than typing a word like "f%ck" (with out the %, of course) in the prolonged history of this site.
What I'm trying to get at here is that 667 Dark Avenue is no longer just a site about a children's series. It has also become a place for grown adults who no longer care about Violet, Klaus, and Sunny to shoot the breeze and hang out. Continuing to use these censors, under the present circumstances, seem ridiculous.
I think it's time for this site to outgrow the censors, the same way we all outgrow something as we age. If moderators took note of this and notify Trip (or Tragedy for that matter) to discuss this, it would be highly appreciated.
