Excellent find, gothicarchies fan. Finally, they've made it official! Albeit without new information save the release date, which might be a U.S.A.-Canada discrepancy, or owing to the tentative nature of the early listings. Those early listings haven't changed, incidentally, and I've yet to find any listings for the LB edition (even on their own site), so information remains in a very early stage; I wouldn't be surprised if the leaks had forced their hand.

Looking forward to reading this. I don't see it listed on any of the websites I normally use for ordering books. Hopefully, it will appear soon - so I can pre-order it. I wonder if it's set between 'All The Wrong Questions' and 'A Series of Unfortunate Events'?

Listings haven't really propagated yet as it's really just the Canadian publishers who let it slip early; I'm not convinced Little Brown planned to announce it this soon. It might be a few months until we find out more and it starts to be listed in the usual places, given that it's not out until late September.

A recent Daniel Handler lecture (well worth reading the full article, by the way) appears to have unambiguously confirmed that the novel is set in the Averse: "Handler is currently working on another novel under the Snicket pseudonym called “Poison for Breakfast” that takes place in the same “bewildering” world as “A Series of Unfortunate Events”". |

Curiously, Penguin Random House Canada appears to have blocked their page on Poison for Breakfast; that is, it comes up as a "Page Not Found," and while searching on their website will indicate that there are books listed by that title under Snicket's name or the Tundra Books imprint, it won't actually ever display on the search interface. Closing the stable door after the horse has bolted?

The purge of Poison for Breakfast from the publishers' webpages, and its failure ever to enter others, seems suddenly and disappointingly explained: Handler's Stephen Barclay Agency (and the Google Books listing) are now listing a delay - to Fall 20 19; in other words, a year's delay. Considering that primary publishers Little Brown themselves had posted a tweet dating it for September 25th this year, it's possible that this is a very recent decision; and therefore possibly a reaction to the recent #metoo accusations against Handler. |

Gosh, that is a shame. I was looking forward to it coming out this year -- especially as it would have been a great thing to be excited about in between seasons of the Netflix show. Still, so long as it's still coming out, it's OK really; we'll get it in the end.

Unless I'm seriously misreading, this appears to be a "revised version of Horseradish", or otherwise a continuation thereof. Certainly nothing to do with PFB, which was supposed to be a true narrative novel with a plot, not a colleciton of quotes.

Amazon is now listing the release date as the first of October, next year.  Which if it turns out to be true, means that it will be released exactly 20 years and a day to the original US publication of The Bad Beginning.  |

I want to place my bets on what the book will be like. I think it will be a set of short stories, similar to File Under 13. Why? Daniel Handler in File Under 13 showed us what he likes to do most when it comes to detective stories. He likes to imagine several short stories, as in a police series. As much as we like novels, short stories have their value. Also, now Daniel Handler has a very large arsenal of characters and a story an expanded universe. He is not willing to reveal the mysteries of ASOUE, I think we have all realized that. He will create several stories in which Lemony was protagonist. After all, Lemony Snicket has established himself as a detective. We can also guess at what time in Lemony's life the story will be set. It won't be before he turns thirteen. Nor will it be after he turns 18. Then it will be between 13 and 18 years old. Where will the story take place? For me most cases will happen in the City, but some in other locations, I suspect even in other countries. I suspect that Jacques Sinicket will have a more effective participation. Eligton and Beatrice will have a cameo. But unfortunately I think Moxie will be left out, but her mother should show up.
