Here, discuss the entire second season. Feel free to discuss your knowledge what happens beyond these eps (as far as the TV show and the book series are concerned), and do not worry about spoiler tags.
THIS IS A LAWLESS LAND.
DO NOT ENTER IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED.

since it's lawless, and we still have ~23 days to go, is anyone doing a reread or a rewatch? i'm rewatching and my last reread was about a year ago

Oh gosh. I just finished my reread of the season 2 books last month, then in January watched the final four episodes with my grandmother, who was hooked on the show. (She adores Sunny.) My family says they want to rewatch season 1 before we start season 2, so I'll probably watch it again with them, too. I've seen the first season so many times, so I can only imagine how bad I'll abuse the replay button on season 2, considering it features some of my favorite books.

My books are a thousand miles away or so, making rereading out of the question, but I've already rewatched the first season once this month and may end up doing so again depending on my schedule.

When Violet and Klaus deliver lines too woodenly I just peek over at what Sunny's doing, it never fails.

Started my rewatch the other day. Taking my time with it this time though Trying to watch an episode every couple of days instead of the whole series in 1 or 2 days! Watched TBB so far and I love it just as much as I loved it when it came out

Apparently the much talked about librarian in TAA is actually Olivia Caliban, according to the reviews. Her death isn't going to be heavy, I guess... This season's equivalent to the parent plot. Have a recurring character appear all season only to be offed in the finale.

I'd meant to say is, not isn't. My phone has a habit of finishing my words incorrectly. Honestly, I liked the parent in S1 too, but I can see where you're coming from.

Tbh I really liked the music from season 1 as well (I know lots of people didn't), but I also thought the music was great for this season. Maybe the only comment I can make on it is that I didn't always notice it so much in this season? Apart from the little plinky-plonky delicate notes that play while Sunny is running her SORE laps, which was sweet.

I'm sort of exhausted and dizzy, from watching all in a row, and all the emotions, so I will just copy paste what I've written on tumblr.
I love it. There were a few scenes from the books that I’ve missed, and a bit of the spirit of the first season, too, but that doesn’t matter as much as all the wonderful things about it.
Oh my. I would almost say, I wish there had been more Lemony - but quality is more important than quantitity, and Lemony’s scenes were absolutely perfect.
Sunny has grown so much, and she is so adorable, and natural. It’s incredible.
The music was amazing, but - unlike most fans, as it seems - I loved the first season’s music too, especially the… I don’t know its name.. the gentle one, that played at the not-really-happy-but-there-is-some-hope music, but all in all, this season’s musicwas very much fitting the mood, and sounded very, very good. My favourite was the music from TVV, when Hector launched his air mobile home and in the end.
Mentions of teh Duchess of Winnipeg and the King of Arizona. Cool.
I love the Donkey!!!
The cast was perfect. Everyone is absolutely perfect for their roles.
Also, the nod to the lack of funding for libraries.
Cakesniffing. Haha!
Now, containing spoilers:
I KNEW IT! I KNEW OLIVIA/MADAME LULU WAS NOT KIT! AND JACQUELYN ISN’T KIT EITHER! AND THE NOTE-WRITING, SUGAR-BOWL TAKING RED LEATHER GLOVES WOMAN IS KIT!!! OH, THE TEARS IN HER EYES. It’s so sad, so sad.
Lemony, my Lemony. What was more heartbreaking - Lemony with his brother in the taxi? Lemony talking about his brother’s death? Lemony mentioning “a woman he knows well”? Lemony putting the stone in the lion’s pit, for Olivia?
Speaking of the stone, I LOVE how Jewish this season is! There’s been some mentions in the first one, but even more and clear ones in this.
And speaking of heartbreaking Lemony scenes, it was sort of sad for me to see him so close to the Baudelaires in the stairs of the penthose, and so close to the Quagmires in the audience that he even “touched” Isadora. And yet, he wasn’t really there, and couldn’t help them. That’s just sad, even though it wasn’t in a specifically sad scene.
Jacquelyn and Larry were brilliant, and I love them. All of their scenes! They are great additions, even though technically, we still don’t know if Jacquelyn isn’t some known character, and there Lemony used to talk about a waiter he trusted, so… are they really “additions”? Maybe not.
I love the expansions of Jacques and Olivia’s characters, and I am incredibly sad about them.
Olaf “helping” Violet and Klaus with the fire… had a very special tension, and was a very special, and sad moment.
I usually strongly dislike “romanced up” storylines in adaptations of books, but… I think the fuss about the kids in TAA is a bit unnessecary - there was some tension in the book, and they kept it very minimal, calm and childlike, and not at all interfering with their behaviour or actions or the story. That was fine.
I loved Hal, and I found the “betrayal” (that he believed it was) very, very sad. The scene with him in the unfinished part of the hospital was heartbreaking and very beautiful.
Another beautiful scene was the end of THH. It was a beautiful scene, and the kids looked just so… close, and hopeful. And Sunny was just adorable.
By the way - Sunny is such a sunshine! I love how real Presley’s acting has got. And I love that some of her “babbling” was already understandable. That’s a great development.
And I love Sunny and Fernald! I love that he cares about her, and that he’s the only one, despite her siblings, who can understand her.
I hope that we get a new way to present the episode names in the third season. Why? Because I loved the title cards, but I am fine with the change, if they change it up a little for all seasons, instead of just abandoning them.
I will talk about more when I remember it… I’m very emotional and dizzy right now, so that’s just what turned up in my head by now.

So, do people think we'll finally get an official answer for what's in the sugar bowl? I doubt it?? but the way the show is emphasizing that plotline made me wonder.

I watched season two last night! I loved it a lot, I think it's even better than the first season. Before I hush about it, I do want to say that I felt like the editing in some of the first four or so episodes seemed really tacky and off, and that I didn't think neither Chasing or Schemes nor Welcome to the House of Freaks worked. This disappointed me because I actually felt like That's Not How the Story Goes was fantastic and was king of looking forward to further musical numbers. Olaf's two numbers here just seemed like less funny versions of It's The Count.
However, those are both just incredibly minor complaints I have in a sea of praise. While I still don't like it as much as the film score, the soundtrack was much better this season. Someone already mentioned Carmelita and Esme's themes, but I also adored the increasingly loud and violent versions of Olaf's theme, and in general the music wasn't anywhere near as noticeable or cheesy as the first season's soundtrack.
I thought the casting was absolutely perfect. Carmelita, Esme, the Freaks, and even one off characters like Babs all felt immediately iconic. Jacques and Olivia were really stand-out, and their expanded roles really helped give this season a good arc. I really felt like this season was more consistent than the last- in the last season, I definitely felt like it had some pretty distant ups and downs. I felt like TMM was the strongest arc last season, and I felt that TWW was the weakest. Here, though? They're all really fantastic and I don't know which is my favorite.
Of course, I've seen the first season several times and I've had plenty more opportunity to pick it apart, and I've only seen this new season once. So maybe my opinion will change. For now, though, I'm pretty smitten.
