I'm not up to date on the audiobooks - do we have this for TBB already, or does somebody at HarperCollins just really like TRR?

HarperCollins did indeed put out a multi-voice recording of TBB, which was released in... 2004. Bit of a delay between books there. :Edit: We know that HarperCollins is planning to re-release The Bad Beginning multi-voice recording on Vinyl in October which might be why they've chosen to dig this up, but it still doesn't explain why they chose to sit on it for over 13 years. asoue.proboards.com/thread/35493/beginning-full-cast-edition-vinyl

Yeah, that's kind of a big gap. If they keep it up, I suppose we can look forward to hearing The End as a multi-voice recording by 2172.

Well, I never expected them to continue this. I mean, I'm very glad they are, but it does make me wonder if they're going to get the same cast from TBB back? Aside from Tim Curry, of course.

I remember reading a rumor somewhere on these forums many years ago, that HarperCollins had recorded a dramatized version of the Reptile Room (and possibly some of the other books) but had simply never released it (or them). This audiobook is most likely that.

Damn, I was hoping that it would turn out that we were going to a 667-cast recording of this.

Book Depository is now listing the audiobook for the 30th of March, next year. Whether or not it will actually be released on that date remains to be seen.

Weren't a lot of the original audio books not read by Tim Curry? I thought some were read by Lemony Snicket.
I just got up from my computer and looked at my four audio books, and TMM was read by Snicket. And there are some lines I can distinctly remember him reading, such as "I received a phone call yesterday... from Mr. Poe."

There is a new date for this still-unreleased audiobook! According to this Amazon listing, The Reptile Room Multi-Voice Recording will release this year on June 30. Of course, with its track record, this should be taken with a grain of salt.

It's not unusual for online retailers to simply automatically push release dates back when a product fails to materialise, without having any obvious input from official sources; but equally, it could well be that HarperCollins remains committed to releasing this product and have just encountered various issues which required a delay or made it less of a priority. Interesting news, but as you say, take it with a grain of salt.

Penny Dreadful editions exist to some degree but still haven't been released.

You can probably deduct that question mark from the sixth penny dreadful; we did once receive a hint, so long ago that I'm not sure I could dig it up, that Helquist had begun work on new illustrations of 667 Dark Avenue, presumably for the penny dreadfuls. The material exists, we simply may never see it.

The material exists, we simply may never see it. I'm so sad he stopped uploading pictures of his unused Penny Dreadful artwork after just two pieces. The real question mark is if HarperCollins audio recorded a dramatized version of TWW in addition to TRR and TBB. It seems likely given that they were created to tie into the movie, but who can say for sure. It really doesn't make any sense to me why HarperCollins wouldn't just release this online or something. I understand why that might not have been feasible in 2004 but surely all they would have to do now, is just take the file and upload onto Amazon, their website etc? Unless it's a rights thing.
