I'm stealing Ryan's job, if I may, so we can discuss the season with unbound spoilers.
Again, SPOILERS LURK HERE.

So. What on Earth was up with that ending? Did Nickelodeon suddenly take command for the last seven minutes? It is so fundamentally against ASOUE's very ethos that I wouldn't be surprised if it was imposed on the production against their will.
I also find the way the freaks are disposed halfway into the first part of TSS very... odd. I wonder if that was the intention when they were filming TCC.

The reviews were quite right in how the season starts off good and then gets really good from The Penultimate Peril.
I really liked how those who are murdered are murdered. With the campy style, it's easy to forget just how evil some characters are, so I'm glad there are some killings of somewhat beloved characters, because that reinforces how ruthless the villains are.
After discovering the sugar bowl's contents, I was initially a bit confused by why Beatrice removed the sugar from it before stealing it. I didn't understand why Esme was so bothered about the theft, but I assume the important sugar was left in the bottom. I had to think back on everything sugar bowl-related after its contents was revealed so quickly and then never discussed again.
It was an appropriately emotive season, with appropriately emotive explorations of backstories and character developments. Saying goodbye to individual characters in the hotel was a nice way to wrap things up with each one before they faced their ambiguous fates.

So yeah, sea monster. Oh well. Nicely menacing one at least.
Jacqueline being the new Duchess of Winnipeg is a nice fan-friendly way fo getting rid of her, if they must.
Sunny and Fernald were absolutely brilliant, as always.

Loved the season. Was confused on a few things my first watch, but I know I will rewatch it soon with family. RIP to my username’s character : (

Oh yes, the parents' book having the name changed really annoyed me too.

I loved in TSS 2 with the stanza at the end how they used the book font. Really made me feel nostalgic.
No musical numbers, interesting because I remember Paul Becker confirming some. Maybe just the Carmelita song or Alphabet Pledge?
I liked the limit Brucie and as always Carmelita was amazingly awful.
I felt the music didn't feel suspenseful at the end of TPP and although it was great I was hoping for more chaos than just a few floors with 6 people. I don't think any adaptation could 100% make TPP perfect.
The Great Unknown never came back, I wonder why. And that image of the boat we thought were Quagmires, I guess not. Were the clips of Duncan and Isadora meeting Quigley from Season 2? Either way I am SO glad to get completion to their story.
The End, while beautiful, felt rushed. Only Alonso ever talked, Miranda was never introduced and I didn't feel the emotions from the books when Ishmael takes them away. Obviously there was no mutiny but the amount of islanders seemed small with no characterization. Still, I'm pointing out my few things I felt wrong so in no way did I dislike it. I actually loved it and LOVED the end with Beatrice II.

Regarding the Great Unknown: I liked to get a bit more of an insight into it with the sense of mystery remaining. It doesn't bother me that we know it's alive, because it's still very unknown. We still don't know if it's good or bad, or where it's from (despite Bombinating Beast implications). It also didn't have as much as a role because the show's ending was less ambiguous than that in the book, so it was less important to me how it was represented.
Re: veryfakedonkey, yeah I wondered if the Quagmire footage was from the second series, just because Avi Lake hasn't mentioned it nearly as much as she did before, so she was quite possibly never directly involved in the third series.
Something else I wondered but am not too bothered about either way -weren't two sets of friends gonna meet on Briny Beach?

What did everyone think of “That’s Not How The Story Goes”?

What did everyone think of “That’s Not How The Story Goes”? The End was a sentimental and lovely wrap-up, but the end of The Penultimate Peril was the emotional ending for me. Especially directly following such a tragic, engaging and emotive episode.

I honestly think Esme was mainly concerned about the bowl being taken than the contents that were in it.

I didn't like that there was no Captain Widdershins, I was looking forward to seeing a jolly member of VFD during the Grim Grotto as well as see some back story of Fernald (Hooks) and Widdershins.
Everything else I thought the series kept well to the books. Which was saddening to me because I knew it was coming to an end without any alternate twists as we hoped a year ago.

After learning the contents of the sugar bowl a line Dewey says makes a lot more sense about how Olaf wouldn't release the mycelium without having the sugar bowl. And to complaints about how Esmé over reacted for that reveal I think make sense, it was out of spite and she hates the fact that anything was stolen, regardless of how valuable.

A lot to unpack I must say. Did I enjoy it, yes, I did.
But I thought we were going to see the Baudelaire's meet up with the Quagmire's as per TIHOSO.
