1:Does anybody know if Besides Neil Patrick Harris, malina weissman, lois Hayden did other famous actors apply for the roles of Olaf, violet, klauss? I tried to search this but my Google skills failed me. Perhaps Olaf was directly offered to Harris as he is the biggest star of the three, but what about the other two. 2: when the Netflix series was originally announced. did you have a dream cast? and if you did could you share it?

My understanding is that it was in fact Harris who kickstarted the project because he wanted a chance to play Olaf. I could just have dreamed that though. But that's what I recall reading somewhere on here.

But that's what I recall reading somewhere on here. Actually, Harris was approached at a dinner party by Barry Sonnenfeld who at the time couldn't tell Harris what the project was. He just told Harris there was a role he thought he would be right for and Harris said yes without even knowing what the role or project was. Daniel Handler also thought Harris was right for the role after watching his performance of "It's Not Just for Gays Anymore" at the Tonys. I think Handler must have recommended him to Sonnenfeld or something but I'm not sure about that.

Here’s the cast I would’ve gone with if I was in charge of casting for the Netflix series:
Garret Dillahunt - Count Olaf Hailee Steinfeld - Violet Baudelaire Jared Gilmore- Klaus Baudelaire Brian Cox - Nero Christoph Waltz - Monty Owen Wilson - Lemony Snicket
Jim O’Heir - Hal Ann Dowd/James Spader - Sinister Duo —- Dillahunt was phenomenal in *Deadwood* where he played two polar opposite roles. He’s 6’2” so he’s got the height you want for CO; plus he’s appeared in sitcoms before so I don’t think he’d struggle with the comedic aspects of the part. He could be pretty intimidating if given the chance.
Steinfeld is a bit old for the part but she could easily pass for 16, imo. In *True Grit* she demonstrated she has the acting chops to excel on screen and she’s only turned in better performances since then. She could really bring that air of strength and protectiveness to Violet’s character that’s prevalent in the books.
It’s super difficult for me to think of a good Klaus. He’s at an age (preteen) that I don’t see too frequently on screen. I’d probably hold a casting call but for the sake of just choosing someone I’ll go with Jared Gilmore just because he’s a popular choice and played Bobby Draper on *Mad Men* 😂.
Brian Cox was excellent in NBC’s *Kings* and even played Hannibal Lector in the 1980s. Check him out if you haven’t seen any of his stuff.
Owen Wilson’s an outside the box choice for Lemony Snicket but I’d be interested to see what he’d do with the character. I suspect he could be somber and likeable at the same time so it could be good fit. Most of the minor characters like Poe, Beatrice,Justice Strauss, Carmelita, Esmè, etc. were pretty much perfectly cast in the irl Netflix show. These were just s few that came to mind.
