Apologies for my lateness, I've been busy lately. With the voting over, I can now confirm that the spy was... gothicarchiesfan ! Since GAF received the most votes in the poll, in addition to never venturing to guess the location, this means the non-spy participants have won. Site: Heimlich Hospital Operating Theatre Spy: gothicarchiesfan twigz : Fernald as Dr. O. Lucafont Optimism is my Phil-osophy : The bald man as Dr. Flacutono misstastrophe : Sunny as Nurse Flo R. : Geraldine Julienne the panopticountolaf : Klaus as Dr. Tocuna Scoreboard:baudelaiire: 10 + 2 (winner) = 12 points Jean: 8 + 2 (winner) = 10 points misstastrophe: 2 points (winner) roxy222: 6 + 2 (winner) = 8 points urbanletteropener: 2 points (winner) Baudelaiire is now tied with Sherry Ann for leading the scoreboard. ——————————————— baticeeer: 0 points Dante: 6 points FileneNGottlin: 4 points Sherry Ann: 12 points sevensorrows: 2 points tk: 2 points Josh Sharpe: 0 points Marlowe: 2 points (Master) AnalysisThis was an initially frustrating round to watch as the Game Master, as I feared the game was given away early with certain responses; I won't name names, but I felt some players were so focused on letting others know that they weren't the spy that they accidentally gave away too much information, thereby making things way too easy for the actual spy. I began to wonder if this might be the shortest round of Spyfall ever. Thankfully for the non-spy players, Gothic continually avoided making a location guess, perhaps because: 1. Setting the round in a specific room within Heimlich rather than the hospital as a whole helped throw him off. As Jean guessed, he could not make up his mind about whether they were in the Hospital in general, just the Operating Theatre specifically, or possibly even the Library of Records (as Jean appeared to be attempting to mislead GAF towards). He also took on a role that seemed to shift between Olaf/Mattathias and Hal. At first claiming to oversee how certain materials are put in place, which could apply to either character, he changed his tone when Jean asked him about glasses, replying that it wasn't a job requirement (when it absolutely is for Hal). 2. He may have been intending to frame another player as the spy - though he never did this. Had he agreed with the accusation against ULA he may have directed others to suspect Jean, the lone voice of disagreement and someone who was already being suspected by at least two others. Still, even the casual onlooker would have already had a general idea of the location after a certain point. Had Gothic guessed the Heimlich Hospital rather than the theatre specifically, I may have been lenient and allotted him points because he technically wouldn't have been wrong. I would be curious to hear Gothic himself explain his plan and thought process this round. Tip of the hat to Jean Lucio, who so cogently summarized his deductions he gave Columbo, Poirot, and Benoit Blanc a run for their money. He also suspected GAF more quickly than the others, disagreeing with the charge against ULA and questioning Gothic multiple times. I chose the Operating Theater for three reasons - 1. I'd been watching The Knick, and was influenced by its hospital setting. 2. It would be interesting to have players not only pretending to be characters, but pretending to be characters pretending to be other characters, adding extra layers of deceit. 3. The Hospital had already been floated as ideas for possible locations by spies in previous rounds, so setting a round in it was "overdue", in a sense. I considered choosing the Library of Records at first, but there's only so many roles you could give to players there. In comparison, there's a much wider variety of roles in the theatre: had more people signed on I would've had room for a Volunteer Fighting Disease, a doctor, a nurse, Esme, Violet, and possibly Mattathias.

This round was really tense. And I would not have accepted the victory if he had just said that we were in the hospital. The challenge for the spy is to hit exactly where the master determined. So it is difficult to be a spy. In fact, this is what equates the sides between the spy and the detectives.
I faced the challenge of acquitting our dear neophyte. My accusation speech was not clear enough, and Baudelaiire made an efficient accusation against him. I had already realized that he was a Baudelaire, and that is what I meant in my accusation. But after Baudelaiire wrote that, I realized that the only way to acquit him was to blame him. He needed to say that he was a Baudelaire in disguise. I also needed to appear to agree with this, so as not to alarm GAF. And I added a tension when asking for the round to end and soon after contradicting myself (in fact already implying that people could change their votes during the two days ... I already realized that people paid more attention to contradictions than to statements.
After clearing him, I needed to be clearer about GAF. But I needed to be clear without being clear. I had to confuse him, and say that he had worked out some details, when in fact he was wrong. I hoped that at least some people would check out my evidence, and realize how much they indicated just the opposite of what I was talking about.

A-ha! Well done, Optimism is my Phil-osophy! I’m seriously impressed with your powers of persuasion and manipulation — this game would have ended very differently had you not so cleverly figured out what was going on and how to catch GAF. This thread immediately caught my eye when I first returned; any thread that has over ten pages on this forum is definitely worth looking at. I read the rules and skimmed over a few rounds, but I did not really analyze the strategy before playing. This was probably my biggest mistake, a mistake that nearly cost us the round. That being said, I really enjoyed playing this game! I’d never seen it before, but it was great fun, and the ASoUE theme pairs splendidly with the game.

I am almost certain that GAF preferred to be silent in the name of fun. He could have tried to guess, albeit erroneously ... In fact, he is very smart and wanted to have the honor of being a villain who is difficult to defeat but still defeatable...
Be honest with us, GAF ... Did you already know where we were? Did I confuse you even a little bit? Or was it the pride trap that also involved you, just as it involved me in a previous round? Would you be proud of yourself for watching us self-destruct and launch an accusation on an innocent?
Deep down this game brings out the best and the worst of us at the same time.

I already knew where we were, or rather, had guessed accurately. I didn't want to defend myself though because it was already pretty clear I would turn out to be the spy once people could reveal their identities and I didn't want to embarrass myself by defending a position I clearly couldn't defend. I am in for the next round, though.

mustache glassesAs you said, it was a mistake on my part to apply for the most notorious award. That's where the idea came from: "I'm going to show this stupid idiot what it's like to be notorious." You thought about using your identity ... But there was a problem. We have all known you through videoconferencing, and you have shown all your gentlemanly side. (You were a great host, I have to admit). So, the most natural thing would be for you to create a fake identity. Of course, we all have a very busy life, and when you create a false identity, you end up leaving the true identity aside. Your identity as Zortegus fell considerably during the time that you appeared ... But Zortegus appeared here exactly at the time of his birthday ... That seemed very suspicious ... Evidently an invisible account was being used by Zortegus, until he came across Hermes's message. More than that, when I hinted that you was Argentine in the shoutbox, you did not defend yourself or joke about it. That would be the natural attitude of a joker, unless you was so surprised, you was speechless with my deduction. "How does this idiot know where I live?" But of course, he couldn't ask that ... if he wouldn't be exposing the fact that I was right. In addition, we have 4 people who have a very recognizable sense of humor around here. Bear, Tragedy, Mister M and Zortegus. Each of them has its own style. Zortegus' sense of humor may seem very different from what is presented ... But we must remember that he was making a conscious effort to win the most notorious award. And the essence of Zortegus appeared when he (after being offended) offended Bear's mother. (The best way to get to know what someone really is is to observe how they act in the face of insults). So, Zortegus, you can stop trying so hard ... The most notorious award will be yours, for sure. (And of course ... I called you into a fight, using a copy of the same post where you offended me).
