Another news item I discovered on the Daniel Handler Twitter: Handler has partnered with (co-founded?) a program called Upstream. He's currently signing his own books and any book in the public domain when purchased through the Booksmith, an independent San Francisco bookstore. This could be a good opportunity to get a copy of Moby Dick or a Shakespeare play signed. More details in the link; photo examples below. Which one of you requested The Wind in the Willows?

I ordered a signed copy of The End earlier in quarantine from The Booksmith and he personalized it at no extra cost. When I tweeted about it, Daniel Handler himself liked it! It's a great deal for anyone who doesn't already have any of his signed books. Attachments:

I've seen this quite a while ago (on DH's twitter/instagram), but didn't think to share it here. I really love that Daniel is doing this. I already have a signed copy of ATWQ?4, so I don't think I need more signed Snicket books, but I am now thinking about getting a DH-signed Dino Buzzati book...

Yes, it's been around for about a month I think? Handler's affiliation with Upstream dates back to 2014.
It would be nice to have a signed Handler-inspired book. I can't decide which one, though. Suggestions?
Edit: By "Handler-inspired" I mean "Handler drew inspiration from Book X," as opposed to "Handler inspired Book X." Though it is funny to think of Melville writing The Confidence-Man after reading and feeling inspired by TPP.

In fact, I already bought a book in their hand, and that's how I managed to participate in the zoom party with Daniel Handler. The book was supposed to be sent as a gift, but there was a logistical error on my part. But I was at the zoom party, which is the most important thing.

That's odd; they list Brazil as a country they ship to in the checkout section (for a hefty $30 shipping fee). Maybe it doesn't apply for signed copies.

I planned on finally getting a Rachel Ingalls book (the Daniel Handler-edited "Three Masquerades"), but now I see shipping to Europe is 30$ as well, which is definitely too expensive for me

All good suggestions! Thanks! I planned on finally getting a Rachel Ingalls book (the Daniel Handler-edited "Three Masquerades"), but now I see shipping to Europe is 30$ as well, which is definitely too expensive for me It's $8 shipping even within the U.S., which is twice what it costs to mail ... I guess they want to focus on their local audience.

I'll check this again, because the purchase I made was at the beginning of the year. But I was thinking. I will not buy. Autographed books only make sense for me as a physical evidence of I was near the author, which I talked to him. As a copy sent by mail, this does not make it a sense. That would be, for me, a constant memory that I have not been with him in person. I already have autographed a book that I published in a low drawback. My friends and colleagues bought. And now that I am far from them, and some I may never see more, I am sure that those signatures bring precious memories.

I sympathise. I have two signed Snicket books, one personalised and one generic which I just won in a competition, and I know which I prefer.

This makes sense. I decided to ordered one because I didn’t have any books signed by Handler and, due to COVID, who knows when I will get a chance to see him in person for a signing anytime soon. However, when things open back up, I do hope I can see him in person.
