Even though I haven't read this book since it probably first came out, I figured it would be worth making this thread for the upcoming Hulu series as there is some degree of crossover with the Snicket audience.
Of all the books that tried to emulate the success of the ASOUE books, I remember this being one of the better ones. Though that may not be saying much.
Amazingly, it's one of the few productions that's managed to continue filming during the pandemic. It started on August 26th will continue until January 19th.

Oh, this is interesting; and indeed, seems a fairly logical choice as a Snicket competitor, or at least a tail-chaser. I remember enjoying the books, and have the vague idea that they shouldn't be that difficult to adapt for live-action, one key element notwithstanding; but it's also true that I don't remember the plots very well.
It's probably not a coincidence that a new book in the series actually came out comparatively recently, although I haven't read it yet. I also wonder if they'll do the prequel? They will not do the prequel.

It is good to know that there is an audience for authors who try to imitate the style of Snicket. I hope there is room for one more, at least.

They will not do the prequel. The fact that that Mr Benedict is being played by Tony Hale and that the entire show is being shot in Vancouver are a couple of other interesting ASOUE connections. I haven't read the books in a long while, what key plot element do you think would not translate well into live action?
