Which movies and TV shows do you know that are reminiscent of Snicket and ASOUE? My picks are:
Mulholland Drive Under the Silver Lake La Belle Captive (1983)
Malpertuis (1971) Into the Labyrinth (2019) Dark Corners (partly; more on the horror side) Escape from Tomorrow Twixt by Francis Ford Coppola Twin Peaks (especially season 3) Fargo Some aspects of Lost

I do seriously wonder whether Lost (last episode: The End) was influenced by Snicket.

Brick, by Rian Johnson of The Last Jedi and Knives Out fame. Coming-of-age story mixed with film noir/screwball pastiche, not entirely unlike ATWQ.

I know you didn't ask about Snicket-style magicians, but I feel like this belongs here: I think this is probably definitely what Daniel Handler was like as an adolescent:

Haha, you’re right, it sounds just like a younger Handler! It reminds me of his high school graduation speech.

Young Handler talked a lot faster, though, so it was hard to make out what he was saying.
(The host looks very familiar. I suspect he is a villain.)
