Jean you should watch all the episodes of Columbo Columbus is really a "Who did it?" I mean, I haven't seen it yet, but I heard that criminals are always introduced from the start, and Columbo needs to figure out how to break their alibis. I think you mean 'isn't really'. But yes, Columbo has the strange power of knowing who did it almost as soon as he meets them.

That's probably because already by the 1970s, when Columbo started airing, this was the only way to make the whodunit feel fresh again. It's also why you won't find many noteworthy whodunits anymore. By the time "Clue" - a parody of the genre - came out in 1985, it was long dead except for maybe "Murder, She Wrote" on TV, beloved by my granny. So props to "Knives Out" for making it feel fresh, but it's too lacking in its storytelling to be a great film. Definitely watchable, though.
