I remember that circa 2018 I was looking for Snicket-themed online games when I came across a site. The site, which was owned and maintained by a developer for LucasArts’s cancelled Sam and Max game, actually had a download link for (and a few screenshots of) a point-and-click game based on TBB. The game had been produced by this developer and his children in his spare time after LucasArts turned away from creating point-and-click games. The game looked excellent — it took its design cues from Helquist’s illustrations, and the environments were all very nicely done. (The shot that stayed with me the most was the Baudelaires standing in the middle of their burned-down home, which was a recreation of the film set.)
All that to say, has anyone else seen or heard of this game? I’ve tried searching for it recently, but found nothing — I’m worried that it may be gone forever.

I never heard about it, but Point-and-click would be a great way to use the ASOUE theme, both to follow the books and to make an original story. I started playing the GBA game recently ... and I was not very attracted. It was not an immersive experience. But I think Point-and-click are actually interactive books. I remember my first game of this type ... The Dig, by Lucas Arts. That was really good ... And it was subtitled in Portuguese. My geography teacher, Alexandre, lent me the cd-room. I was a senior in elementary school. Wow ... How a game makes you have memories.

I’ve just recently started playing one of Her Interactive’s Nancy Drew point-and-click games, and I absolutely agree that they would be the best way to adapt ASoUE into an interactive form. (The Nancy Drew format would work especially well for an ATWQ adaptation.) While I do like the official games we got, warts and all, they never really immerse you into the Snicketverse like they advertise.

What an absolutely fascinating piece. I don't believe I was aware of this at all; but, having downloaded it and given it a short whirl to get an idea of its style, then I think it's rather charming. I agree that the Averse seems an excellent fit for point-and-click games; I myself would point to Tangle Tower as a recent example which is in the Snicket spirit.

Gosh, I really am returning to all my old threads, huh? Just wanted to say that after playing Samorost 1 I would absolutely LOVE to see Amanita Design do a Lemony Snicket adventure game.

Finally got this game to run on Mac! I don't know if anyone else is interested, but I'll post a tutorial below. Secondly — install the game from its site, linked further up in the thread. Unzip its contents. Thirdly — choose "Install" in POM. Then hit "Install a non-listed program" in the bottom left corner of the window.
Fourthly — Hit the next button until you come to the section where it asks for a virtual drive name. Name the beast, then continue on.
Fifthly — Choose the proper specs. I used a 32 bit virtual drive and chose not to do anything before install (when it gave me three boxes to check, I hit "next" without checking any of them). Sixthly — POM will ask you to choose the install file. Go into the "Bad Beginning" folder you created when you unzipped the game and choose "The Bad Beginning.exe". The game will install. Seventhly — Wait for the title screen to appear (just to make sure all is present and correct). Hit Escape to exit the software. Create a shortcut, so that you can easily access the game without redoing this process every time. That should be everything! If you have a problem running the game, hmu and I'll see what I can do. It's nice to finally be able to enjoy this game :)
