This is an excellent idea, and is the sort of thing that could actually be done.
Yes, not sure how Dante comes into it.
Semblance: In a way, yes. It is set in the real world, and contains material that is traumatic in a non-suitable-for-children way, but the narrator's tone is rather like Lemony's, with a similar sense of the absurdity of life. It was written before Snicket was invented; after that I think adult-DH rather hived off that element into Snicket, so that his adult boosk became rather duller.

TB8 is definitely not for children, though I was like 13 when I first read it
So go for it i guess semblance

I recommend TB8 to 11-13 year olds, Watch Your Mouth to 14-16 year olds, and the other DH novels to no one

BG and WAP are both disappointing, though they have their moments. Adverbs has a cetain charm, not as a story (it doesn't claim to be a story), but as an exercise in literary construction and mysteriousness. WWBU I rather like - in some ways it echoes TB8, and in other ways (clearly intentional) it echoes Snicket.
