we're all bound by certain (political and ethical) doctrines and social restrictions for living. i don't think anybody lives "freely" in that sense.
True, but organized religion is one of these authorities, and many people today don’t accept it, I.e. they live freely in this respect. Again I am thinking mostly of a mental state, similar to how a society’s ethics will influence an individual’s view of the world, rather than how concrete political laws influence someone. but freedom from religion does have elements of both.
