Unfortunately, the owner has rejected the offer of $500 for the Snicket scripts. In the GoFundMe, there is currently $750 that has been donated. I have paused donations at the moment. We have a couple of options: Raise the offer or refund everybody their donations. Please vote for your preference, especially if you have donated.

Not voting because I think we can raise even more money for this. Honestly, let's worry about spending money on scanning the scripts once we actually have them.
I say we extend the gofundme, because I know for sure more money will come in.

Why have donations been paused? I was actually planning on donating some more tonight.

I just want to raise a question that just popped into my mind: if we succeed in getting these writings, we can't just make them available online... I mean, buying a book doesn't mean buying the copyright.
To make it available online, we would have to have at least authorization from those who have commercial rights over the writings (if anyone has them). If no one has commercial rights, we would need the author's permission.

Why have donations been paused? I was actually planning on donating some more tonight. I paused the donations temporarily while we are figuring out what to do next. It looks like the generous consensus is to make a new offer of $700. I can reopen the GoFundMe if people want to donate more and then we could potentially raise the offer if he rejects this one.

I think the GoFundMe should be kept open so people can keep collaborating and in case we get the scripts and there's some extra money we can donate it to a noble cause or invest it in cryptocurrency

I have reopened the GoFundMe for donations. In terms of possible extra money, that is something that would need to be figured out collectively by the donors.

Through some detective work I found the twitter account of the purchaser. Why don't we just ask him directly on there what his price is. (if he wants to sell)
Maybe one of us can send a message from the 667 Twitter account.
Since he's a collector it may be tough to buy from him but perhaps we could offer him some kind of deal where if we can't outright buy them, we get lent them for however it takes to scan them and then return the physical copies to him.

We could do that, but then there is the possibility that telling him what we are trying to do will make him raise his price to an inordinate amount of money. Also, digitizing them may make them lose value in his mind.

Yes, that's why I was thinking we could simply send a message from the official account asking if he'd let us scan them for free, and if he refuses, only then offer him money.

A good idea in theory but, again, digitizing them may make them lose value because they would then be available to others. Does that make sense?

Yes, that's a good point. We should at least contact him though, right?
Cause with this system it's just bidding in the dark.
Ours was the first and only offer made to him so nobody's champing at the bit, if we tell him how much we have. Then we would at least get an idea if he's willing to sell at all cause the site just does that kind of listing automatically.

Yes, you are right. Is there somebody who manages or moderates the 667 Twitter account that would like to message him? I just followed him on my personal account, but his DMs are closed even to followers.
