Every hour you can "Exalt" or "Smite" someone- you'll see those buttons under Karma in other people's profiles. Exalting puts the karma up one point, and smiting puts it down one point. I'm not sure if by "nudging" you mean "bumping" but if you do, then bumping is basically posting in old threads that haven't been posted in for ages.

Karma is kind of a Kudos for doing something good I guess. If you have some, you know that people appreciate what you've been doing (to further extrapolate from Brunch)

The "Exalt"- and "Smite"-buttons are something like a "like" and a "dislike" button for the person or for what the person is posting. When you press one of the buttons they will disappear for some time.

Seems a bit weird.

It's because otherwise the forum will get far too clogged up with outdated threads that cannot be easily accessed. It is more acceptable to just make a new thread on exactly the same subject. If you have something amazing to say, and you must say it there, I think it is okay. If it's about the original books, it might be safer to wait for the re-re-read here asoue.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=jog&action=display&thread=31171 . If not feel free to make a new thread in the appropriate section

Does any know how you know when a thread is locked?

If a thread is locked, you won't be able to post in it, and you will see a padlock icon to the side of the thread before you click it.

Incidentally, rules on bumping differ per section; sometimes if there hasn't been a new thread on a subject for a long time and you're making quite a substantial, informative post, bumping can be acceptable. It depends on how much traffic a particular board is getting; a lot of the ASoUE boards are pretty quiet and it wouldn't matter so much, but for Wretchedly Wrong Questions it's a different matter, and it's best to focus on the up-to-date threads on the front page.

It could be referring to the Nudge in MSN Messenger, which a few members used to use to chat in the old days.
