what’re some of your favorite episodes of tv ever???
thought about this recently bc i was remembering how much i love girls - season 2 episode 5 - one man’s trash
i just find it brilliant and so revealing of hannah’s psychology it’s great!! man i love lena dunham despite it all, i think she deserved the praise she got for that show. she was onto what a certain subset of “millennials” are like before it was all anyone could talk about & she wrote real, complicated characters. and it was funny!!
i’m also obsessed with several episodes from enlightened but for whatever reason the one that always comes to mind is season one episode 6 - sandy. the question of how real are the connections we form w/ others really resonates and i love this final scene/monologue:

How To with John Wilson, S1 E5, "How To Split a Check" is a good episode in a series where each episode works as a stand-alone (though each of the two season finales work better watched at the end).
Seinfeld's "The Package" has a nicely Kafkaesque storyline involving doctors.
Limmy's Show, S1 E6 is a very good introduction for newcomers to the show (is on Youtube).
Peep Show, S4 E5 is probably my fav ep in a hilarious show. "On a stag weekend on a canal boat, Jez accidentally kills the dog of a woman, Aurora, he's trying to seduce."
I can't really stand Lena Dunham, but am now tempted to give just the one ep Fredy mentioned a watch. I do like Laura Dern.

I can't really stand Lena Dunham, but am now tempted to give just the one ep Fredy mentioned a watch. hey it’s basically a standalone ep so it could be worth checking out! i guess maybe u won’t fully grasp the significance of it w/o knowing the character but anyway. lmk what you think if you do

ooh good thread yeah gotta say as someone who never watched Girls but heard all the Lena Dunham slander Fredy had a pretty good sell for a show I was never planning on watching lol. I do love a character study... also never watched Enlightened but I remember seeing the trailers and being into it. totally forgot about it though! i loved that clip. I'm always talking about Neon Genesis Evangelion but it is a show that also focuses on identity. Considers how there are basically different versions of you that exist in others' minds, and asks if we can really know each other despite that. I got similar vibes here. & now I wanna see laura dern piloting a mech realllly bad!!! Poe's Coats Host Toast How To is soooo good but i don't remember the "lesson" of that one. The scaffolding one always sticks with me, and ur right about watching the finale last. How to Risotto is beautiful. I started watching the second season and stopped because my mood was like not emotionally stable enough at the time lol. gotta pick it back up soon. @twiggy ah yes I simply gotta watch shameless. for emmy rossum and the gays, at least. U seen the trailer for Angelyne? starring emmy rossum, directed by husband Sam esmail. speaking of Sam... Mr. Robot is probably the other show in my top 2 of all time. Picking one ep is hard, there're honestly a lot of standouts. idk i'll single one out and post it later :*

there r plenty of valid criticisms of lena dunham but also a lot of the backlash “girls” got was gross and sexist - like ppl were actually pulling their hair out bc a fat woman was having sex on tv. & there’s crazy misinfo pushed by conservatives that ppl believe bc they hate her (eg “lena raped her sister”). i also think it’s normal to find her annoying (she can be and i think she knows it) but when ppl are so enraged by her (and not, say, woody allen) i think it’s worth investigating why. anyway don’t mean to derail the thread, the point is: i think it’s a great show, though i think its quality drops like after season 3
also i’ve never been an anime guy but now i’m rlly curious to check out neon genesis evangelion bc of u!

there r plenty of valid criticisms of lena dunham but also a lot of the backlash “girls” got was gross and sexist - like ppl were actually pulling their hair out bc a fat woman was having sex on tv. totally i still unfortunately see that when people bring it up today. i hate when people have a reasonable reason to dislike someone and use that as an excuse to also be like "ur potato in ugly!!". like that's not the thing to call out lol. to get a true opinion on dunham I feel like i'd need to do a lot of research that I am not willing to, so I'm down to have no opinion on her personally lol. I like Industry, which she directed a bit on and produced i think. A lot of millenial drama as well, but the back drop is an investment firm. I watched it after Mr. Robot because I was craving more corporate drama lol Also watched this scene from Girls and enjoyed it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wW1IhB3CXxUAlso I have a big crush on Alison Williams DO IT. I'm not gonna recommend a single ep because the show does not work that way lol, it just barely makes sense in order. Also i will say you're gonna experience a decent amount of classic anime bullsalsa before it gets to my fav stuff, I just also happen to like anime bullsalsa. except for the sexualization of minors, that always sucks. But NGE even handles that in a meta way imo and it's mostly the perverts watching that take it too far. overall it is a beautiful psychological dive into identity and connection with others, and if you watch i'd love a play by play of ur thoughts. omg maybe there should be a forum wide viewing of the show. like i could make it available for everyone to watch, and we could do like 2 eps a week or something. anybody interested??

Murdoch Mysteries, which is generally a hokey, low-budget, forensic-show-meets-period-drama has one remarkable bottle episode called "The Accident" about the aftermath of a car crash. The show tends very goofy, so that episode stuck with me.

Not in a demeaning way though I’ve just never seen it myself haha penne oh hell yeahhh and then after the 26 eps you only have to watch the movie and then also the death+rebirth special plus the other 4 movies that came out like over a decade later uhhh Jk not all that is necessary just give it a few eps lol. I think you’ll like Asuka also. Resemblance mm good call. For some reason I loooved the Hostile Hospital eps
