I know 667 is full of men and only a handful of us women here, but talk about periods
This thread has been prompted by the fact that I am currently in the midst of one of the most savage periods of my life. I'm lucky I don't really get cramps at all, but I have iron deficiency and they're always really heavy. This month I've been particularly uncomfortable/irritable/sluggish/tired and hungry. I don't really get sad/emotional during.
I've gone through periods of 6mo+ of not having any periods at all due to disordered eating and overexericse. Very thankful to be out of that now, but I did skip one due to stress starting a new job, and timing is still kind of all over the place
Mostly I think I'm kind of amazed that my body prepares to make baby each month and all the processes that go into that
If you are not a person who menstruates but want to contribute: how much do you know about periods? How openly do you talk about them with people who do menstruate that you know? Do you notice a hormonal cycle of your own regardless? Is there anything you'd like to know?

I used to get quite bad cramps and feel sick and dizzy and nothing else seemed to help, so I started taking the pill for this reason. That was almost half my life ago, so I have now decided to stop taking it to give my body some time to just be itself before I'm ready to use its baby growing function. At the moment I'm weirdly looking forward to having "proper" periods again, but be prepared for me to come back to this thread in a few weeks to complain about them.

When I get my period I suddenly become very cranky and constantly miserable, and I end up being horrid to people, and I hate it because that’s not who I want to be.

I'm thinking now am I supposed to track my period somehow? The doctors kept giving me these little calendars when I was a teenager, but I never ended up using them. I'm guessing there would probably be an app for this now? This is a weird thing to think about because it makes me feel like an 11 year old and an old woman at the same time.

Have you ever tried using continuous use contraceptives based solely on desogestrel? You can stay continuously, and in general it simply stops menstruation. When it does not interrupt, it makes the flow smaller and lasts less time. And if you want to go back to menstruating like before, just stop taking it. It helps to lessen menstrual cramps too, and even prevents endometriosis. I think it's a good investment. The dose of hormones is lower than that of conventional contraceptives (which generally use two types of hormones together).

I've tried that pill, and it was horrible for me. Haven't taken the pill regularly since I was about 19, i just hated putting hormones into my body, but I'm pretty lucky that I don't suffer painful periods at all.
(my period is done now lol, so everything's good again)

Yes, it is a festive period where the color red predominates. And you don't have to wait for the end of the year to do this: every month it happens.

Bumping this thread because I started my period on the day that I was supposed to run a 5K. This is actually an easier period than what I normally have, wonder if the universe is encouraging me to run.

I keep meaning to bump this thread and forgetting!
After I stopped taking the pill my first few periods were a bit on the light side and suspiciously painless, and I thought it was maybe just taking some time to get back to normal. Instead, they kept getting lighter and lighter and started turning into disappeariods and now it's been about two months without seeing any blood. I did start using an app to track it, and when things started getting weirder I started taking my temperature in the mornings because that can tell you stuff about your cycles. In my case, along with all sorts of other stuff my body is doing, it is telling me that my hormones are a potato ing mess. I have had a doctors' appointment (on the phone and very rushed) and they arranged a blood test and a scan and hopefully that will help them figure out what is wrong with me and what to do about it. So at the moment the app is saying "You should have had two periods by now" and my body is like "What is this "sigh-kl" thing that everyone is talking about? Can I eat it?" and my moods are ranging from angry teenage boy to stressed menopausal woman, mixed with anxiety about what this means for the future. It is not fun.

Thinking of you Anka, I totally get you with the irregular cycle and worrying what's wrong.
Lots of women come off the pill after years and then get vanishing periods like you describe- make sure you're eating plenty/not overexercsing, because I've lost my period due to that. And it can take months to settle. There's probably nothing 'wrong' with you at all- it just sucks so much that womens' cycles aren't really studied/understood enough, and a lot of regular doctors don't know enough to give full advice. But hope it gets sorted and you are regular again soon, I know it can be really offputting/concerning from experience.
