No kidding. Sorry I was slow to respond to this guys, my computer's been evil lately. GAH!!! THE SLIPPERY SLOPE!!!! Discuss, discuss... someone say something cool and thought-provoking, I've got nuthin, kids. The book just drained me of all my theories by confirming about 70% of them, and the other ones... well, there aren't too many more clues, anyway...

i would just like to say (thanks to my short story classes) that the 'denouement' of a story is the unraveling, the part after the climax. everything winds down from there. is that a hint that we're near the end of the series? oh and there are 5 polka-dotted mushrooms. same number as the olives. hmmmm and weird fact. LS didn't sign his name on the letter to the editor. he ALWAYS does that. weird. and the title is 'the grim gr.........' i sure that letters an 'r'. that was is suppose to be the grim gameroom right? what's with the 'A' at the end?
oh and janos, nice avatar.

Okay here goes. I think the man with no hair but a beard and the woman with hair but no beard were members of V.F.D., as they said. I think the Verdant Flammable Devices were invented after the schism, for true V.F.D. (The "good" side). When Beard no hair gives the V.F.D. to esme, he says he has a lot of matches. He also says that beard no hair man has a blue fireproof suit on. (Bottom of page132, slippery slope) When Quigley says bruce confiscated his matches (Top of page 181, slippery slope) and that bruce is wearing an ugly plaid shirt- i think it was over his disguise- his voice was hoarse from singing the snow scout songs and junk.
Moremoremore Get out the Carnivorous Carnival, On page 233 and 75 (the pictures) You can see a man with beard but no hair and hair but no beard (woman) they were probably looking for the figuring with the V.F.D. message in it, but left when the brawl started. Also, in the CC, I can't remember what page, but Esme said (When talking the Bauds, hugo, colette, and kevin) that she asked the gift shop person if he/she wanted to join Olaf's troupe, but Esme said her excuse was "The person had to guard their precious figurines" why figurines over anything else in the shop? I g2g but more tomorrow around this time. -sunsun

OOOOOH! Excellent, sunsun! However, I don't get how the figurines tie in? Are they mentionned in TSS? Or are they just something that... hey... you know, in The Six Napoleons (a Sherlock Holmes mystery), they used a plaster bust of Napoleon to hide stuff in... ummm... heh?
Edited to say: Guh. I'm late. Stupid yuck. Mumble mumble.

The name is smudged! Dang!
Well, the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw Gr... was Graveyard, so that is my guess.

I think she is a bit more loose than her siblings, maybe its because she is an infant but...

Well, I was just kidding.. it's probably not graveyard at all. But.. man, I'm so happy it is a submarine! I hope they visit that place LS mentioned.. the underwater room. Oh, and remember the poem.. p. 243 That no life lives forever; That dead man rise up never; That even the weariest river Winds somewhere safe to sea" Maybe they will meet all the volunteers/people they thought were dead down below? Maybe the hotel has a level that is underwater? Now we're getting somewhere! ;D
