I didn't know what number 11's was until you said that. I suspected it was the mushrooms, but it didn't seem right. Some jump out at you some don't.

The trick to finding them is to carefully examine the last picture and look for things not mentioned in the text. However, they often don't make much sense until you have some facts on the next book. It's possible that similar clues to future books or VFD mysteries may be hidden in all the drawings, so look at them closely. |

I just don't get how mushrooms can play such a big role in TGG. I mean, unless someone dies from eating them, I cant see what they would be for. Unless they mean some sort of code.

How about a coded mushroom salad? Lemony said something about coded sandwiches in TSS, and VFDers seem to like their food coded.
Or perhaps there's some confusion about the toxicity of the mushrooms, which leads to a major plot point. All the other "visual foreshadowing devices" in the final pictures have been relatively important to the next book, or at least major features of the setting. So the mushrooms will be important, and likely because they're poisonous, or seem to be but aren't, or seem not to be but are.

I suspected that the "message from an old friend" would be from the Quagmires, but we don't have any verification on that. Or it could involve coded sandwiches. Which include mushrooms which someone thinks are poisonous and they get all hypochondriacal! Maybe I can fit this all together, but at this point it's all speculation.
