I think that all of them will return in the next book. I really don't know how on earth I should choose one... This is very difficult, even though I don't know why I'm stressing so much over a poll on an internet forum...

One might say that's already happened. Some of those choices were pretty close. But for the Quagmires, coming back is a given. Handler just can't finish the series without us seeing them again. He just can't. If he does I'll be furious. It's also pretty much decided that we'll see the sinister duo again.

I don't see why not, they're key characters, the plot needs them both for the solving of mysteries and simply for their menacing presence. They can't just disappear from the books altogether with out a proper exit. Although they could make an appearance in TBL which might answer some mysteries involving them...but then I think they would still need to be involed in the 13th book, you know for the reader to know some dark secret about this duo which the baudelaires do not.

I felt that the sinister duo were pretty well wrapped up in TPP, and that could easily be their final appearance if needs be.

We may hear more about the duo via Olaf's tirades in the next book. He might refer to what he expects them to do next, now that they have turned against him. But they don't necessarily have to return in person.

I don't think the sinister duo were wrapped up at all, we merely found out a huge part of their scheming, at the closing of the series I personally think it'd be fitting to have the ultimate villains present or at least around some time beforehand. But people can't possibly doubt the return of the Quagmires, can they?

But people can't possibly doubt the return of the Quagmires, can they? I agree, I don't see how Handler could get rid of them now. Especially since they've been mentioned in all the last three books in some ominous way. Just to cut them wouldn't make any sense.

I had actually hoped up till the very end of book 12 that they would indeed appear in it, but my hopes were dashed, it's only wednesday. Will there be any significance to Thursday now that the meeting has, rather effectively, been cancelled? I think there still might be.

Handler had better not cut the Quagmires out; at least we should have some news of them, if they're killed off or missing.
As for Thursday, I doubt it'll still be significant. Most of the volunteers would know that the meeting had been canceled, but might attempt to meet up at the underwater hotel, the only truly safe place now that the above-ground hotel is gone. But even if there is a VFD meetup someplace, Thursday is probably no longer of any special significance.

I'm not sure about them meeting up at the catalogue. Didn't Dewey say that barely anyone knew about it? I think he at least implied it when he said (paraphrase): "Volunteers and villains alike know that the last safe place is Hotel Denouement, but nobody has ever questioned why the sign is written backwards." I think the general trend was that the catalogue had to be kept a secret from anyone, volunteers included, as they can no longer trust anyone.
Thursday significance - hm, anyone who was too far away to see the fire might still be headed towards Hotel Denouement. The SSHAMH, though, will probably have seen the fire and turned away already by the time we meet them, if they've managed to shake off the eagles and the hook-handed henchman anyway.
