Yes.
THH WAS pretty creepy. I recall reading it downstairs for the first time, at night, and thinking "Oh, my God!" I'm a little apprihensive whenever I enter hospitals now, especially at night. And I'm pretty freaked out by knives now.
TGG was just fun. The Bauds finally got to take a break and just have fun with their interests through their jobs, which was good for them. Olaf went crazy, which was kinda strange (and annoying). And we had our first example of moral ambiuity in Fiona and Fernald. We certainly found out a lot!

I agree. Except I don't like Fiona at all. I thought she'd be another Quigley but she turned out to be anything but. And I loved the revisit to briny beach.

Yeah I never liked Fiona right from the start.

I liked Fiona a lot at first. But as soon as she kissed Klaus and left she became demonized in my mind.

Hello You love fiona? Ewwwwwwwwwwwww. I wish Widdershins would come back so we'd find out what in the world happened to him.

I thought this book shouldn't have been a part of the series.I thought that they easily could have waited on the tobbagon and gone straight to Briny Beach.

They were about to drown because they were losing control of the toboggan... Besides, the sea was calm with much less of a current than the stricken stream. If it took them an entire night in the electrical powered Queequeg to reach Briny beach, it would have taken an age on the toboggan in the calm sea.

I don't think you can make a purely geographical argument against an entire book, because on that basis then we didn't need any of TRR-TAA or TVV-TGG because they all just ended up back in the city. The plot developments in the books themselves are, I think, the main measure of their importance. And while in TGG nothing positive was achieved, it seems that Handler does have a purpose in mind for Fernald, Fiona, and Widdershins - if he wanted rid of them, he could have done it in the Hotel D fire.

Well we did find out some things in tgg. We found out about the ? sub, well sort of. And we had it all but confirmed that VFD=volunteer fire department, learned about the hook handed man, I think overall it was mostly a book of information, not necessarily plot excitement.
